Can I contribute to the preservation of old games? Can I contribute to the preservation of old games?
Question

I just remembered my grandma has a day 1 OG xbox and we used to play lan on it all the time and online, it has tons of data on it and probably a bunch of games. Could this help the preservation of online content for emulators and such in some way? I remember at least 8 - 10 people playing on that thing every day and I don’t know if it still works but there should be tons of accounts and tons of game saves/data

Reverse-Engineering Tom and Jerry Tales (GBA) Password Encryption – A Hidden Unlock Mechanic. Unlocking orange and blue costumes. Reverse-Engineering Tom and Jerry Tales (GBA) Password Encryption – A Hidden Unlock Mechanic. Unlocking orange and blue costumes.
Guide

While researching Tom and Jerry Tales (GBA), I discovered that existing guides on costume unlocks were completely false. No known method worked, and the game’s mechanics remained undocumented. So, I teamed up with my good old pal ChatGPT to reverse-engineer the game’s password encryption system and uncover how unlock conditions are actually stored.

Breaking the Password System

Extracted and analyzed the ROM’s password validation function at 0x4E6478, where passwords are checked against encoded states. Unlike standard level skips, Tom and Jerry Tales does not store simple text-based passwords. Instead, each password is transformed into a structured bitwise checksum, encoding: • Level progress • Hidden state flags (flawless runs, unlock conditions) • Special triggers that alter game flow

Decryption Methods Used

To reconstruct the encoding system, I applied: 1. Raw Data Extraction – Extracting stored password sequences from ROM offsets 0x03B0A8 to 0x03B0B2. 2. XOR Pattern Analysis – Identifying bitwise transformations that modify each character input before validation. 3. Checksum Reverse Engineering – Isolating checksum sequences (A5 5A 55 AA) used to verify password validity. 4. Memory Flag Tracing – Comparing valid vs. invalid passwords in memory (0x043D4F) to locate condition toggles.

Finding a Flawless Run Trigger

By analyzing stored password structures and comparing transformations, I identified an undocumented password: 4RH9H. Unlike standard level codes, this password does not just act as a checkpoint—it sets an internal flawless run flag. This flag signals the game that all prior levels were completed perfectly, automatically enabling Dining Room Level 4, which normally only appears after a 100% run.

Exploiting the Mechanic

When this password is entered, the game registers the perfect run condition but does not immediately verify it through gameplay. Instead, simply quitting from the level forces the game to update unlock flags, triggering the immediate availability of both the Orange and Blue costumes.

All-in-all

You can simply use the password to unlock both costumes or play vanilla and complete game without losing a life in every level (get an invisible gold medal in every level).

"Improved" ROM Hacks? "Improved" ROM Hacks?
Question

I'm trying to curate my own collection of ROMs and honestly I'm the type of guy that would rather play a version of an OG game that has a Quality of Life update/hack for it if it's available. Prime example of one being the Metroid + Saving hack for NEStroid.

I'm primarily asking if there's a version of Super Mario 64 (like what Kaze has been working on) that has better performance, but I'm also curious what other opportunities like these are out there?

Looking for japanese PS3 DLCs Looking for japanese PS3 DLCs
Question

I was +20 hours into Mass Effect 3 on my PS3 when I realized I didn't have the DLCs installed. Downloaded some of them from NoPayStation, but didn't work. Then I realized: I'm playing the Japanese version of the game (was the only one available in Vimm when I downloaded it).

I tried downloading the US version of the base game, but it wouldn't show me my savefiles --strangely, it would find the Japanese ME2 files if I tried to start a new game, but no way to load up the ME3 ones.

Now I'm trying to find a way to download the japanese DLCs for Mass Effect 3, but there's only the Online Pass in NPS and the other options listed on the megathread. Where do Japanese people download their PKGs from??

Resource

I recently bought a powkiddy device and thought it would be really cool to download from my Android and then transfer the ROM directly to the device.

So with the help of an AI I created a bash script that does just that downloads the ROM to the Android and then transfer it to the powkiddy (rgb10x).

The script is not dedicated just for my device but for all Rocknix OS that have a network connection. For legal reasons I didn't included links in the script itself just to avoid legal issues but you can easily swap them. Enjoy!

Oh, and it also supports macOS & Windows! 🎉

Help finding a game Help finding a game
Request

I'm in need of some help. I'm looking for a game i used to play as a kid, but i cant remember what it was called. What i do remember is that i had it on the Game cube (might have been on other systems, but i'm unsure) and the game was similar to Tony hawks pro skater, only they were using scooters instead of skate boards. I remember that there was a scifi/fantasy esque vibe to it all, but thats about it. Any help would be appreciated!

So the goes like this.

You choose a faction in which that specific faction has an advantage, for example, the spearmen faction has the advantage on weapons, they can easily outpower you on the early game because of their weapons.

But can be outpowered by a faction that is specific for defense, it's like skirmish but on a 3D like level, the map is also black and requires you to explore it by moving your character onto grids to unlock that part of the map.

Now the main goal of the game is to raid all of the factions to win, and in order to win you need to advance you faction to the max, like upgrading your city, so from spears, to fighter jets to robots.

Adding to this, you can also trade with other factions, be on a treaty, and help each other, what I can remember this is single player only, I've been looking for this specific game for years now. Any leads will help! Thank you!

I know this is a long shot and my description may be vague, please understand.

Is there a tool (evrything is AI powered now) that can scan a rom, rename it and place it in the right system folder automaticaly ?

Can we have a permanent post with current rom organisation tool and tutorial on how to easaly use them ?

Thanks
