Game stuttering a lot after graphical update? Even on the character selection screen.

[Tech Support]

Specs:
i9-13900ks @ 5ghz
32gb DDR5 5000mhz
RTX 4080
NVMe SSD

Tried:

  • Updating drivers

  • Disabling fullscreen optimizations

  • Changing settings to all performance in Nvidia Control Panel

  • Changing priority for fxiv_dx11.exe in task manager to high

  • Lowering graphical settings in-game to lowest

Anyone else getting the same issue? Was getting roughly 200fps in Limsa before now getting 140fps constantly dipping to 90-100fps with stuttering.

EDIT: Just noticed it also does this on the opening cinematic as well. Going to try reinstalling the game.

SOLUTION: Either unplugging my Wooting 60he or clicking the first "Wooting 60he" listing under System Configuration > Gamepad Settings > Device solved the issue. For some reason the game has a weird bug now after the update since the Wooting acts as both a controller and a keyboard. So if anyone else has this issue I suggest if you play M&K to disconnect your gamepad entirely or any other sortve device that interacts similar like one (analog keyboard, joystick, etc) try looking under that setting.

Just chiming in to say I had the exact same issue on a 4090, i9-13900K, 32GB RAM.

I have tried so many solutions including a full reinstall, but this thread is what finally saved me. I disconnected everything that could possibly be related to a USB controller and that was the solution. It ended up being a bluetooth adapter that was connected via USB even though the wireless PS5 controller was powered off.

Thank you!

track me

gettin this on ps5 as well

I’m getting the same thing.

RTX 4080

32GB at 6000MHZ

7900X at stock

On an NVME SSD as well.

I’ve exhausted all my efforts short of reinstalling my OS or updating to Windows 11.

I’ve used DDU to install WHQL drivers 555.99 and 556.12 with no change or success. Ive changed all sorts of settings for power, even went as far to remove my riser cable and vertical mount just in case it was that.

Getting a stuttering nearly every ten seconds with GPU usage going from 99% down to 70~80% and a frame drop with it. I’ve disabled GSync and ensured there’s been no low latency options turned on. I even removed the DLSS DLL in the game to ensure that was causing problems. I’ve uninstalled the HD Audio driver separately from the video driver and tinkered around with every vsync option.

Did a full fresh reinstall of the game and the issue persists. I’ve also changed the hardware scheduling in Windows to see if that’d make a difference and it does not.

Luckily the queues haven’t been terrible so I can be in and out and it hasn’t caused crashes, but it has been akin to a perpetual paralysis effect when attempting to play. Quite frustrating.

Found the issue for me personally. It was some weird interaction with using the gamepad that was connected to my PC. I've seen other people mention turning off Freesync in the monitor settings too and that seemed to work for them.

Happening to me as well. I noticed that if I tab out then it is smooth and stays in the 140fps range but the second I focus the game again, it drops like 40fps every second or so. I also messed with toggling g-sync, toggling dlss, playing with the different fps limiters, in addition to what you already mentioned.

EDIT: It was a controller for me as well, as soon as I unplugged my Azeron it went back to normal. I still can't get it to work when it's plugged in, but at least it is a temporary fix.

EDIT: I was finally able to select the first device in the drop down, which fixed the lag issue. Yay!

I'm getting a lot of stuttering also. Tried rolling back bios updates since Lenovo forced one on my Legion laptop. I then fired up Dawntrail on my Steam Deck... and I have 0 stuttering issues.

I'm getting the exact same issue on my 3090, did the same stuff you did to no avail. Im farily certain that this a is a driver/ gpu utilization bug. Lets hope that nvidia/square fixyes this soon cause its driving me insane.

Getting the same if not worse issue. Averaging under 60 FPS in most areas. In cutscenes, getting 130-ish fps, but when the camera moves to another character, there is some crazy hitching going on without frame rate dip. It is driving me a bit nuts.

Specs

i910850

RTX 4090

32GB 3200 mhz

Edit: I fixed it. Updated to the newest Nvidia driver 556.12 that I think came out yesterday, which does not mention FF14 specifically. Clean install, btw. Although, I have a hunch that the issue was something in the config file, so I also used Nvidia app to optimize the game settings, which I never do or usually recommend. The reason I did it was because some values were reporting as blank in the optimization preview, which was odd considering they were either enabled or disabled in game. Hope this helps someone else...maybe :)

Has reinstalling helped? It seems like everyone with this issue has a different way to resolve it, if they fix it at all

If you are using a wireless controller adapter. Try removing that, just spent 4 hours on trying to resolve this and it was my controller the entire time.
