how is the undergrad psychology program at UIC

Question

Hi,

I am thinking of applying for a transfer to this university with 78 credits completed from my current university in Canada by fall 2021.

Is the psychology program good at this university? Anyone who is doing this program please share your input and how is the honors program here? Do you have to look for a supervisor for your research project? Is it hard to find psych research lab opportunities?

Also, what other universities do you think in Chicago I can apply for transfers too? Would appreciate it if you can give me some information. Thanks

Yo! Former grad student in the psych department (since graduated).

It depends on what you mean by "good." In terms of ranking we're pretty decent, but we're not the top in the Chicago area. University of Chicago's got a great psych program (but it'll be more expensive).

The professors and grad students in our department are wonderful people who are generally kind and great to work with.

You do need a supervisor for your honors research project. The easiest way to do that is probably to volunteer in a lab (as you pointed out). At the beginning of every semester, PsiChi holds a "matchmaker" where research labs looking for undergraduate research assistants do short presentations on the kind of research they're working on, and you can apply to work in the labs that sound interesting.
