Antlion ModMic Wireless Still Best?

Headphones - Open Back

Hello,

Wondering if this is still the best way to get a wireless gaming microphone to use with audiophile headphones? Seems like its very very dated without any refreshes.

I'd argue that it has some issues, but I don't think I would give it up after a bit over 3 years of use.

My biggest complaints are the following:

  • It is the only Micro-USB peripheral I have left. This is the biggest thing that makes it feel dated, in my opinion. I'm pretty convinced that this port no longer working or something will be the reason I eventually replace this.

  • If I leave it charging overnight while my computer is offline, it just doesn't seem to actually want to turn on afterwards. I've also had to pair it again after that.

  • It's just kind of expensive.

I'm sure the battery life on it isn't that great, but I'm never on the phone / on Discord for long enough for me to have ever paid attention.

Supposedly there's an updated version of the wireless one coming out soon, like what happened with the wired version. I haven't tried Antlion since I have a desktop mic, but I've had the Vmoda one and it was complete garbage.

To my knowledge, yes it is. Where there's a lot more competition these days is in the replacement cable with boom mic category. There's good options there now from Meze, Vmoda, Corsair, etc.

I like the cut of your JIB!

Also, the new standard wired modmic is really good and is only $59. I use a fancy boom setup with a Shure SM7B but I got a couple wired modmics for my audiophile friends to play games with me and they sound really good. Background noise rejection on modmic isn't quite as good as a boom mic setup would be though although it's still pretty good and certainly fine for PTT.

I've been using mine since 2021. It is great, battery still lasts me all day and I charge it every other day. Sound quality is excellent.

I'm hoping it lasts me another 4-5 years.

The only issue is that sometimes it doesn't charge but I think that's just do to micro-usb being shit. That's why I let it charge over night after I supervise the yellow blinking (charging...) for a couple minutes and then go to sleep.

Overall an 8.5/10.

-1 for micro-usb

-0.5 for minor annoyance around charging (but it could be my cable sucks)

To piggyback onto this question, how does it compare with the mic on the MMX 330 pro? Was thinking about making those headphones my next ones when my current pair kick it (ATH-M50xSTS)...

I know you're specifically asking about wireless mics, but I'd always go with the cheaper USB version which has better sound quality; and if you always use the same headphones you can use the supplied clips for cable management. Or for cheaper still, the 3.5mm plug version along with a little USB sound card that has 3.5mm mic in & headphone out sockets. I hate owning gear with small recharable batteries that will lose capacity over time and end up in landfill.

Kind of hijacking your thread, but I'm interested in the feedback:

I am mostly using my wireless headphone, ANC, for home office work.
My Bose NC700 are getting old. Sony is right now issuing now a newer headphone (XM6) so one could hope to find the older XM4 for a bargain, with already excellent ANC.

The problem: XM4 has a disastrous mic (it even amplifies the background noise, and cannot be used for work, really). So a separate mic (wireless) could be an idea
So I was wondering: how is the antlion "noise cancelling"? Is it good enough to use professionally in a slightly loud environment? and if not, any idea of alternatives (I saw some o amazon, but what are they worth)?
thanx
