Does it annoy anyone else.... [Man with the Skull Tattoo]

Season 11 & Below Spoilers

In season 11 episode 8 Awake, a unsub William Taylor is torturing victim with sleep deprivation techniques and large amounts or caffeine, the motive was shown to be finding his daughter Tatianna who he insisted was taken by a man with a skull tattoo while he slept in a lay-by, Tatianna's body is found, William is found and ultimately shot without them ever giving another thought to his story. This episode ends with us seeing the Man with the Skull Tattoo attempting to take another child.... WHY DID WE NOT GET AN EPISODE ON THIS MAN?!?! I mean I get that season 11 already had multiple arc stories with Derek, the Dirty Dozen and the Storm but if a cliffhanger EVER needed solved is was this one!!!

WHO IS THE MAN WITH THE SKULL TATTOO? HOW MANY KIDS DID HE TAKE? WHY DON'T WE KNOW?!

I'm sure there's fanfic out there giving me all these answers but I just though I'd give my vent here!

I think they did it as a way to show that not every serial killer that’s out there is ultimately caught. Some get away.

I always thought that maybe they left some of the cliffhangers for the spin-offa that didn't work out lol

omg I hated this episode so much. Only ever watched it once, will never watch it again.

but for an entirely different reason than you. I never even twigged on that whole he did it again thing.

}

Your brake light it out.... So simple and effective, a plethora of potential victims and more importantly the BAU isn't looking at ya! They didn't even say how how he killed and what happened to little Tatianna!

hotch and tara actually talked a little about it at the end of that episode. i think the cod was just how cold it gets at night in the desert. thats why they thought she just wandered off and couldn’t find her way back. but tara was questioning that for sure, she believed that there might actually be a man with a skull tattoo. maybe the guy takes them and just leaves them in the desert to die?

I see that I’m 4 years late to the party about this being a frustrating episode.

There’s some things about that episode that made me really uncomfortable and upset. Both personal things, and things I can’t explain. I accidentally started watching it a second time and immediately had to turn it off. Do you mind if I ask why you hated it so much too??

lots of reasons.....I have trouble sleeping. This episode doesn't help that. As a Reid fan, I don't like that he's missing from this episode. And I really hated the way they made fun of him in the jet at the end, and his alleged best friend didn't even stand up for him. The plot didn't make much sense to me either. But I hafta admit, it's been many years since I've seen this and I barely remember any of it anymore, other than what I hated. I've only seen this one once and it's in the 'never watch this crap again' pile.

I'm 4 years and 3 days late. I just finished watching that episode. It upsets me because the real "boogeyman" doesn't get caught, and it involves children, which makes it that much worse.

There were a few episodes throughout the series where they left it as if they were coming back to that story and perp...always irritated me that so many left on hangers like that

}

It's the worst ever! I know they can't solve em all but grrrr!

New Heroes Join the Fight.

I can never work out if this one or the the son from ‘Blood Relations’ annoys me more 😰 (the one with Jigsaw from Saw!)

Blake is so traumatised by that entire thing, is assured he’s dead and then we see him break into that holiday home!

Such a shame cause I freaking love that episode 🙈

}

i remember that and i was like uhhh where’s the rest? i get that they’re showing that not everyone gets caught but come on, there totally should’ve been a follow up episode to that, especially considering how hurt the dad was by his daughters disappearance, it would’ve been nice to see some justice in the end

I definitely think some of these stories were for another spin-off that did not materialise because of how badly the other two failed?

You’re definitely not alone.

I just finished my own most meticulous re-watch of the series that I’ve attempted yet. I was just trying to make sure I wasn’t missing something with any of the little dropped storylines and continuity issues that had bothered me since the series finale which I wasn’t 100% sure I could be right about or was remembering correctly.

Out of everything in the entire series run this single plot hole annoys me the most. I also thought the same thing as you, like maybe this was supposed to fall into a later Beyond Borders arc. But after rewatching just now and tbh specifically even with this plot in mind too when I began it. I can’t see how it fit in that spin off concept given where the child was found. At first I thought perhaps because of human trafficking. But that doesn’t add up with how that episodes abduction played out in the end. It doesn’t seem as it would fit a trafficking, especially global, type plot.

I can’t be sure about suspect behavior; But I looked it up while watching and it didn’t seem to fit the possible timeline of that series short run or possible longer right.

The only thing I can possibly think to make sense of this complete inclusion and then drop off could be that either it would’ve had to do with Hotchner’s leaving abruptly leading to a need to drop some planned drawn out storylines that wouldn’t work without him and this originally weaved in when they loosely conceptualized it’s long role or something or that it was included only having meant to be more of a kind of statement regarding the serious and intense nature of the US’ HSK (Highway serial killer database) situation and it’s very deep extent.

I say this because I noticed that the way it’s been mentioned a few times in the series it almost seems as if they’re subtly insinuating that the HSK database and its cases are mostly handled by another unit or team entirely, where perhaps they consult often and send in their findings or something but that barring a uniqueness to a situation or something the “HSK’s” aren’t handled by the BAU directly.

So after this rewatch I thought that maybe they both included this and also left this completely open ended to somehow speak to how severe and even somewhat unrecognized or discussed the Highway Serial Killer phenomenon continues to go on in the US?

I could be so completely wrong with this conclusion - thought process regarding the guy with the skull tattoo though. As I think I even needed to come to this conclusion for my own peace I’d mind only because they never closed this plot up and it drove me crazy tbh.

But yeah out of every possible unanswered crime question in the entire series this does and will forever top my list of the most frustrating unanswered questions of the series.

}

I actually like this idea, and when I say spin off I mean one that was planned and didn't happen like a HSK spin-off, possibly the cast shake ups did change the story though, I really hate that the gather died not really knowing what happened with Tatianna and we didn't even find out how she died.... Honestly this was the most frustrating cliff hanger ending ever!

}

Oh possibly! That’s kinda how I came to the whole maybe it was meant to be a statement about the severity of the HSK situation.

I was thinking maybe they kept mentioning “The HSK database” and stuff the way they did because of a spin off concept but at the same time Beyond Borders was happening. So I thought maybe that angle was a reach on my part.

This was just such a specific heavily peppered detail inclusion that it really drives me nuts too. They gave us much more info than anything else they’ve dropped while also leaving a lot of questions unanswered.

For example we know that she didn’t just wander away because we hear their thoughts about this and see the guy with the tattoo but we hear nothing about sexual assault or how she died. We know she’s not exactly abducted so it kind of eliminates trafficking as a concept yet given all that we see him in the last scenes clearly being preferential but .... for essentially no real reason?!

This has now forever caused me to never drive on a highway for more than 15 minutes ever again and there’s no way in hell I’ll pull over in rest stop, restaurant, .... to change a blown tire!! 😂 something happens like that I’m driving on the rim off an exit after this episode.

Seriously though if this wasn’t ever intended to be answered and possibly was meant to be a subtle statement on the severe nature of the HSK situation it worked for me that’s for sure!

yeah, why didn’t they follow up on the man with the skull tattoo storyline?

}

I really hate that they didn't I do think it was to show that "the bad guy sometimes wins" but I want closure!!!! Lol
