[Discussion] [Guide] How to play any game with steam_appid without any other apps!
Hello. Thre is very simple Steam Guide: How to play any game with steam_appid without any other apps like SAM ! I mean: ANY GAME on Steam. Here we go:
-
Install any game with steam_appid.txt (Lyne, Cyborg Detonator or something like that): https://i.imgur.com/AurNnxS.png
-
If you can not find that game on Steam (like Dota 2 Test) or that game is Free, go to https://steamdb.info/ or just on Steam, and press "play" or "intall": https://i.imgur.com/x1qrlAe.png and press X after that: https://i.imgur.com/Q51uqVw.png
-
Open steam_appid and write that game Steam App ID: https://i.imgur.com/ZUqVCFv.png
-
Open Cyborg Detonator.exe or Lyne .exe or that game with steam_appid, and we will have this: https://i.imgur.com/I0ZFi6i.png
-
And you dont need any SAM (Steam Achievement Manager)
Have a nice day!

Thanks!
You can actually do this with any game, you just have to create steam_appid.txt in a game's root folder.
with any game, you just have to create steam_appid.txt
really? thank you!! i did not know that.
with this steam_appid.txt I did not have any problems with tasks:
really good stuuf ^^
how do i create one ?
this doesnt work. I added a steam_appid.txt and put 480 (Spacewar's id) in it in the games root folder (next to the executable and stuff) and I ran the exe directly but it still runs it with the games original steam app id.
Ever figure it out? Maybe try running with goldberg emu?
Using 480 outside developer accounts is asking for Valve to ban your account eventually, since that id is for developers to test steamworks features.
As for why is not working, is due to the game you trying to run probably having steamstub, plus you not supposed to put the steam_appid.txt in the root folder as poorly stated by others.
You put the steam_appid.txt next to the Steam API library.

Thanks! Now this is what I was hoping to find.
I get unable to intialize steamAPI
i still have to pay for the game tho
can i get banned for this?
I have steam_appid.txt in game folder, one game even already had it when installed. I launch game with exe file and it still opens in Steam.
Doesn't work in all games. Here's a list: https://steam.fandom.com/wiki/List_of_DRM-free_games#steam_appid.txt_games
This trick can be used to spoof game ID, but unlikely to allow launching them without Steam. If the game uses Steam API it needs to talk to the library implementing it which loads with Steam client.
