I plan to reinstall my Debian Buster from scratch, and want to use guided partition and do LVM (with separate /home partition). I wonder if I should do encryption. It is home laptop, not really any secret data or anything, just lots of personal information and documents. What are pros and cons for encryption? any impact on productivity? If matters, the laptop is T520 with quad-core i7 and 16GB of RAM, 1TB SSD.

Thank you all for valuable information. I have done encrypted LVM. Not only this is the first time I encrypt my home PC, it is first time I use LVM. I have done guided partition which encrypts everything (apart from /boot, obviously). I was a bit concerned with the size of the / (30GB) as I prefer larger one for ease of mind, but it shouldn't be an issue with LVM as I extend it later (if I understand LVM correctly).
