Is there any way to download more than 1,000 images at a time from iCloud photos?
I've amassed a 6 digit number of photos/videos over the years, and i'm looking to back them all up on my computer so my phone's storage can breathe a little (i keep the originals on my phone + backup to icloud). Through icloud's web interface, i am able to easily ctrl+a all of the photos, but upon clicking download, i'm told that it's limited to 1,000 photos at a time. I feel like there has to be a more efficient way to download ~20k photos than manually doing it in batches of 1k, and having to make sure the selection of photos don't overlap. I also don't think my poor browser could handle the ~150gb download stably. I've used jdownloader before, but i don't know if it's capable of dealing with icloud's clunky website, nor automating the process that's needed. I know most people here probably don't use icloud, and it isn't my first choice either, but does anyone have any advice/experience with this?
thanks a lot for this, just put in a request to download my 7000 photos and videos. Will be a lot easier than downloading in 1000 item chunks.
did this work?
Yes. I no longer use iCloud Photos and instead self host Photoprism.
Photoprism
hey whoa, just checked that out. How is it from switching? Love self hosting my own stuff but would like to know your thoughts! I just grabbed my backup as well :)
Did you get everything?
My photos & videos is about 80 gb.
When I was requesting my data I was asked for a size limit. I put in 25gb since it was the highest option. Am I gonna get 4 downloads or am I just not gonna get everything?
Yeah I got everything. As you said, there will just be 4 downloads. It is annoying to download though, because it will sign you out of the website after a certain time of inactivity which can stop the download and you have to start again. Didn’t happen consistently to me, but was still annoying. Also, some metadata may be missing, such as date created. That caused some problems for me but only for some of the oldest photos in my library (from 2013 or so).
Oh okay. Good to know thanks :)
