For a single license Little Snitch is currently at $45, Vallum at $15, while Lulu is Free and Open Source (so you can check the quality of the code). They all work well. The price difference is really justified by the quality of the UX (User Experience), Little Snitch being the best. So everyone can afford security.
Depends on what you need it for.
TripMode.ch is nice for when you're on the road, using either a metered connection or an untrusted network. It's a very easy per-app online/offline switch and traffic counter.
What makes you use it over Little Snitch or Radio Silence?
Plus for £40 you can get Little Snitch & Micro Snitch (it monitors your Webcam & Microphone activation) Both apps work in real-time
Little Snitch offers full control over every bit of data send / received from your Mac. Plus you have the options to show local LAN to LAN based traffic if you want too (by default local traffic is not shown, very easy to turn on)
The control window groups all web traffic by app who's using it, it really does work well!!
I have tried Lulu, Tripmode, Radio Silence and Little Snitch. Settled down with Little snitch. Here is my experience with these tools -
Lulu - Opensource and good. But i had some kernel panic issues once i removed Lulu it worked fine. Mine might be an isolated case. Not sure.
Tripmode - I used this when i travel or use my phone to tether. I will disable all apps except browser / mail. This works for this use case. One challenge i had was that if any app uses local loopback traffic then trip mode had issues with it. The dev team said they were working on a fix. Not sure it has been fixed now.
Radio Silence - Basic. Nothing what other apps can't do.
Little snitch - This one is golden so far. It just works.
Little snitch/Lulu. Little snitch costs money and Lulu is free and open source

I have bought every major firewall on Mac.
Lulu is okay for free but not if you need granular control. Radio silence is too basic and not worth it.
What did you finally land on?

I liked Little Snitch and was a paying user for years but it started causing kernel panics so now I just use Gas Mask to block specific connections.
