SFTP integration in Finder

I have recently acquired a MacBook Air. It is the first time I came into touch with MacOS, mainly I am a Linux user. While I am overall quite satisfied with the MacOS experience so far, I was very surprised to discover that Finder has no native SFTP integration. As an everyday Gnome user, it is unbelievable to me, how this can even be 😂 anyways:

I'm looking for an SFTP integration into Finder. Does something free or at least very cheap exist?

I highly recommend forklift! It’s like finder but can connect to virtually everything: sftp, ssh, gdrive, aws... you name it.

Howdy! Check the connectivity tutorials as they might differ a bit because of the dissimilar OS.

Regarding the SFTP tools, I saw that Forklift was recommended above, which is fine, except that it is not suitable for large data transfers. If we're talking specifically about SFTP, I would consider Commander One, just cause It provides a seamless SFTP connection, no matter the size of the files being transferred. However, Commander One's learning curve may be challenging for beginners

Although there is always a lot to choose from, these solutions are a drop in the ocean).

By the way, check out Flow or WebSSH, you may also like them.

There are tutorials out there to mount an SFTP drive. It won't feel as natural as Linux but can be done.

My personal recommendation, look into Forklift by Binary Nights. Particularly when it is on sale as part of some bundle. It has 2 panes and allows for all kinds of connections.

Transmit is also amazing but rarely on sale.

You might want to try Cyberduck or MountainDuck. It might be free and is kind of like Filezilla. Haven't tried it yet.

Edit: There’s https://mountainduck.io for $40. Alternatively Cyberduck is a free app.

Forklift is the best option for FTP and Finder replacement. Transmit is also a very nice app for ftp/cloud integration

Here's a nice overview of contenders: https://mac.eltima.com/best-finder-alternatives.html Please note that Eltima develops the top pick, Commander One: https://mac.eltima.com/file-manager.html

Not very unbiased is it?

I feel your pain Gnome bro 😁

I ended up buying transmit app which is great, but it would be much more convenient to have it in native file manager like almost all linux file managers do.

Transmit is a good option.
