I would honestly think it’s safer to keep the external libraries readonly until immich is a few versions past a stable release. I keep multiple backups of my libraries, but not everyone is heeding the warning that immich is not yet considered production ready.
Edit: but yes: this is something I’d like to see eventually as well.
I think that may be the only reason why someone would not use immich.
Its Funny how almost everyday there is posts Like „the only reason someone would use Immich is for xy“. After that its some other use case then the real one: its a Google Fotos replacement.
I Hope that in the Future there will Not be to many Crazy Features for edge cases. I Like the funtionality but it could be too many Features especially in the Mobile App UI if you want your wife and Kids to use them for the Family pictures.
That Said, is Guess deleting Photos from the external Library is a reasonable Feature. But i Guess Most people organize the Library before and want the read only Option to be Independent from Immich.
I would send the unwanted photos to the archive, then query the DB directly to get a list of paths from archived photos and proceed to do a batch delete. You could get extra fancy and add grace periods, filter by owner etc...
This is an important feature to have and would greatly help towards the goal of fully replacing a cloud-based photo management solution, because not everyone wants to give up their directory structure.
External libraries should NOT be modified. They are external for a reason.
thats like saying external drive (storing files etc) should NOT be modified as they are external?

ok so youre saying that doing anything in immich is pointless because it does not actually modify anything

Hey, I have question. If I remove a image from external source, does it remove from immich as well or does it store that file on different location?
