This isn't news, the battery drain issue thread is pinned at the top.
Just got my XM4s upgraded to XM5s through warranty for couple extra dollaridoos for this issue.
Its so common on that generation that it was considered normal.
Welcome. To the club. It's the new update. Not sure if Sony have gone ahead with that extended warranty or not for these things
They should have pushed a message through the app inviting people to replace their earbuds at no cost. Instead you have to contact support at your initiative only to be told that you have to pay to ship your earbuds to another country for inspection and repair that is not free of charge.

contact customer support, I bought mines via amazon and in the end send mine back and got a refund, without any troubles.

You are done. Get new bateries from ebay for 20$ and replace them. It's pretty easy to do.
