It’s not enough to get me to upgrade, but the difference between brightness of the M1 Pro and a studio display has been driving me mad

You can get 1000 nits brightness on M1 Pro with Vivid or Better display app. Displays on M1 Pro, M2 Pro, M3 Pro and M4 Pro are all exactly the same.

All the current gen pros have the same panel. They might even bump the m3 series next month in an update. Makes me wonder about that webcam...

It is exactly the same panel as M1 Pro, M2 Pro and M3 Pro. The only change is Apple is changing software value of maximum brightness in OS. You get same effect with app better display or Vivid on any Mini LED mac.

Why would Apple do that tho :( wouldn’t they want us to enjoy the max brightness as well

It's still the same panel.

These 1000 SDR nits, the 24GB base and the lower 100€ price (versus 2550€ M3 Pro 18GB in Europe) made me made the order without watching videos etc.

The main reason I wanted a Macbook is to have a good bright screen on my laptop. Because my current laptop can't be used outside due to low brightness. (Of course, second reason is the CPU, this CPU is faster than my desktop 5800X3D).

Now...I didn't get the nano texture, hope I don't regret that and that the 1000 nits with the standard display are enough for some outdoor usage.

You can get the 1000 SDR nits display with a free software tool on any M-series Mac.
