LG Gram Pro 16 2024 OR M3 Macbook Pro 16
I have these 2 options. I don't game. I like to have a crazy amount of browser tabs open. Battery life is extremely important to me and I hate throttling. I can see myself using some CPU and memory intensive professional software for engineering in the future. Longevity and futureproofing is EXTREMELY important for me. I want it to last at least 5 years. My current dell XPS is a POS with 2 hours of battery life and broken trackpad. I mostly store pdf files like textbooks and MS Office documents and coding programs on my laptop.
LG Gram Pro - $1800 - 32 GB Ram, 1 TB SSD, 16 inch, 155h, RTX 3050, OLED, 120 Hz.
Macbook Pro - $2429 - 36 GB Ram, 512 GB SSD, 16 inch, 12 core CPU 18 core GPU, Mini-LED, 120 Hz.
What's best for me?
The MacBook is the better laptop in most cases, slightly better at the things you find important. But I would say that the Gram comes pretty close for a lot less. So if money is no object, MacBook. Especially when it comes to durability, longevity and battery life. Apple laptop batteries age exceptionally well. And also the device holds its value better.
But no shame in saving a few hundred dollars and getting a Gram, it looks like the new models are a nice upgrade compared to last year. Also the Gram is way more comfortable to move around with due to the lower weight.
The Macbook Pro is not comparable in power and battery life. Keeps its value better. If you don't game and do not have specific Windows software needs (i.e. plug an eGPU for machine learning or many external monitors) you should get the Macbook. There are 2 problems: The 512GB SSD in the Macbook is not upgradeable whereas the Gram has 2 accessible SSD slots, you can even install 2x4GB SSDs in the future. The Macbook will be almost as heavy as two Grams

as in it's much better battery life than the lg gram pro 2024? I always thought the LG Gram pro 2024 had comparable battery life to the M3 Pro 16 MBP. Am i mistaken?
I don't foresee myself using a ton of storage, I never have, currently still have 200/512 gb free after about 3 years of use and I have never cleaned, probably have a lot of junk that can be removed. Plus I don't think I would mind having an external SSD or something if I really need it or cloud stuff.
My main points are long battery life with no throttling till the very end, longevity(5+ years minimum), futureproofing, RAM quantity + efficiency of utilization, decent CPU(which both have).
Taking those into account would you say macbook is better for me?
I'd compare lg gram to macbook air 15. As laptop with relatively big screen but relatively small weight. Advantages of Mac is better battery life. Advantages of lg gram is smaller weight, upgradable storage (2x NVME ports) and wider set of ports . Mac book pro 16 is much faster, but weights more like gaming/workstation windows laptop. I'd say for peak futureprofing your best bet is gaming/workstation windows laptop since it is more powerful than lg gram/macbook air slim devices and also could be found with upgradable storage and ram slots.
This is the right comparison! On point!
I've found myself in a similar situation back in December. I do game though, and I ended up getting the Gram because of the price difference. I got mine refurbished for around $1200, with the same specs but 2TB of storage instead. I think the others summed up the issue pretty well. If you're not gaming, the Mac is the better option in terms of battery life but the Gram isn't bad either and can make you save a lot (nearly a thousand dollars in my case). I'm still getting enough battery life for a full day of work on my Gram.
I went with the new 2024 LG gram & got the loaded Core Ultra 7 155H, 16" 2 in 1 touch screen w/ 2TB & 32GB RAM. I wanted a new touch screen so MacBooks were not considered.
How are you liking it so far? I’m considering the gram.
