I bought this controller because i wanted the extra buttons, but from what i can see they are the same buttons as AXBY ? so you cant change them to be seperate buttons? what the heck is the point in having them then?

Nope. You can't have extra button funtions. The console doesn't support that.

what the heck is the point in having them then?

If you have them mapped to A,B,X, and Y, you no longer need to take your right thumb off the thumbstick to use any of those funtions. So, if you were playing Call of Duty, for example, you can jump, crouch/slide, reload, and change weapons at the same time as using the right stick to turn left/right and look up/down.

But they can also be remapped to other buttons, like LB, RB, LS, and RS. So, you could use two paddles for LB and RB so you don't have to take your fingers off the triggers.

Or you could remap the d-pad directions to the paddles so that you don't have to take your left thumb off the left thumbstick for d-pad functionality.

You need to use the Xbox accessories app for remapping.

That makes sense, thank you for explaining it.

Lol did you honestly think they would be new buttons 😆

My dude wanted circle, triangle, and square buttons. Not just more, boring alphabet buttons.

Imagine them being unique buttons, that no devs have mapped anything to.

Then they'd honestly be pointless.

The point is so you can use both thumbs on the joystick and press buttons at the same time. You can assign them to any button that the console will accept, which yes, is limited to the normal XYAB, D-pad, bumpers, triggers, joysticks, and Star/Select.

Example: In most shooters A=jump and X=use, but to hit them you have to pull your right thumb off the right joystick, meaning you can't control your aim at the same time. But with paddles I can aim while jumping, punch while turning, and reload while tracking my target.

They aren't extra buttons. Games that use controllers only have inputs for the normal buttons. They aren't programmed for extra buttons. The point of them is to make it easier to hit that button while hitting other buttons. Like in call of duty. If you want to jump while shooting without the back button you need to take your aiming thumb off the joystick to hit the jump button. But if you put the jump button on the back button you can keep your thumb on the aiming joystick and still jump. So it helps you aim and jump at the same time if that's what you want. In racing games you can pretend they are paddle shifters. If you want more buttons you need to plug in a mouse and keyboard.

You need to use the Xbox Accessories app to map the controller

Go to Settings >Devices and Connections > Controllers & headsets

There is an r/Xboxinsiders beta firmware update that added the ability to map them to new buttons on PC & console if the game supports Mouse and Keyboard input if I’m not mistaken
