For Those Considering Best Buy "Fair Condition"
I was able to pick up a "Fair Condition" Ally for $460 at my local Best Buy. I know people here are stressing picking up an Excellent, but wanted to offer up an experience from someone who often buys used Fair during sales to maximize value.

You can return anything bought at Best Buy during holidays up until Mid January. This includes open box stock.

Most "Fair" stock means no original box and/or missing part. It does not mean it is broken in anyway.

My item was PRISTINE. Basically brand new but came with no box, no power supply. I bought an Anker 100W for $24 which IMO is better than the included and I'm going to use a dock for TV anyway.

YMMV, but I've bought a ton of items marked Fair from Best Buy and it has never been an issue. They are NOT final sale, so worst case scenario you can return if not up to snuff.
Had terrible luck with my local BB. Only has open box excellents but they were all in bad shape, extremely dirty, bad sticks/triggers. After a long day of hassles of going back and forth, I settled with a completely new one which isn't still as bad at the 619 sale.

Same bad experience here, i got 2 different “Excellent” open boxes that had non-working and/or bad triggers/sticks before i gave up and just got a new one, please be aware if you get a open box one peeps, check triggers/sticks etc first thing if you get one. I think most of those returns might have actual critical defects and not just because “people don’t know how to work windows!” as has been eluded to many times in this sub.
Hmm, I’m in Minneapolis (Best Buy HQ) so maybe that’s why my experience has been so consistent
Yeah it’s a mixed bag. When buying open box, it could be anything. I got a fair condition and it had the OG box but was unfortunately missing charger. That wasn’t a biggie tho cause I already had a 100w outlet and cable at home. Haven’t tested the SD reader and probably don’t plan to. My only gripe is the unit itself looks great but the back grips show some wear. Though it’s not enough for me to return it and try my hand at another ally. I did get a free screen protector already applied too.
Get a killswitch case problem solved 😊
Used to work at Best Buy handling the open box items. Normally, when we specify that the item is missing the manual, box, charger, or some other accessory, then the computer will mark it down as fair or good even if the main electronic item is in pristine condition. This only applies to some items though.
Does this apply to iphones aswell?
I had the exact same experience with fair - truly looked brand new.
Yeah, can't go wrong with open box at BB. Just picked up excellent condition for $520. The charger wasn't even touched, still had the plastic wrap on it. Everything looked brand new. The holiday return window was the biggest reasoning I bought it in the first place. Gives me plenty of time to try everything out.
