How do I install Luci? It looks like it no longer is paired with the firmware on a new install

I'm working up the courage ot install openwrt but if I go to my device's page(Cudy wr3000), it only shows that Luci is available on an upgrade.

Is there a guide for idiot's that can walk me through the installation process?

I could have sworn that a few years ago Luci was available on default on all new installs (when they merged the project with another router firmware, ddwrt I think it was called)

Have you tried ssh into the Router then

opkg update

opkg install luci-app-opkg

I've never ssh before. How does it work on a router with default admin and userid?

ssh @192.168 (whatever the ip is)

luci isn't included in the snapshots.

but if you use the link you posted, and click the request build button, you'll get an image with luci included.

https://openwrt.org/releases/snapshot

I feel like an absolute dunce, I am not seeing "request build button" on that link.

Stop what you're doing immediately and read the device page:

https://openwrt.org/toh/cudy/wr3000_v1

Specifically, the OEM easy installation section.

Long story short, it tells you to install the manufacturer-signed version of OpenWrt (which you can download from the manufacturer's site) first, and then upgrade it to the current version.

Oh thank you for that. I had scanned the device page but it starts off with an empty template.

I didn't bother reading it carefully after that.

Thanks!

That's not your device's page but the firmware selector.

This is your device's page: https://openwrt.org/toh/cudy/wr3000_v1
