Surface Laptop Studio 2 October 2023 updates install says that my system is not the right model

[LAPTOPSTUDIO]

SurfaceLaptopStudio2_Win11_22621_23.074.39397.0.msi

I have confirmed that querying wmi the model comes across as "Surface Laptop Studio 2" but the installer rejects that. It instead says that the model should be "Surface Laptop Studio"

Is anyone able to successfully install this? Looks like Microsoft coded this MSI with the wrong model string.

Based on the log above it appears you used the Surface Laptop Studio 19042_22.114.42840.0.msi MSI file. That's an older 2022 MSI for a Surface Laptop Studio (22=2022, 23 = 2023).

You need the Surface Laptop Studio 2 MSI from here Download Surface Laptop Studio 2 Drivers and Firmware. from Official Microsoft Download Center. I opened that MSI in tools, it correctly targets SystemModels=Surface Laptop Studio 2 and SystemSKUs=Surface_Laptop_Studio_2_2029

Yup. OP can always use the aka.ms link to get the latest for Win11 22621 if they are unsure:

I'm wondering if its the day one firmware updates

Good point, let me check versions on those. But if I wiped out the system and reimaged I would still need to install the various drivers in there other than the firmware.
