I’m currently testing both the Fold 6 and the Pixel 9 Pro Fold to determine which one I like better. Feel free to ask me any questions about how these devices compare!
I’ll update this post daily as I use both devices and share my opinions with you. While there are other foldable phones available—some of which might outperform these two—most US consumers tend to favor Samsung or Google due to factors like updates, tech and software support, and carrier compatibility.
Why Pixel is the better phone:-
-
Easy to type on the cover screen, especially for people who don't use the Swype function or the mic.
-
Speech recognition is significantly better on the Pixel 9 Pro Fold compared to Google’s own microphone on my Fold 6. When I spoke the same sentence, the Pixel 9 Pro Fold transcribed it accurately, while the Fold 6 did not. Additionally, the feature where you can simply say "send" to send a message works on the Pixel 9 Pro Fold but doesn’t seem to function on my Fold 6.
-
Battery is better on Pixel 9 pro.
-
Pixel's camera is better, easy to capture moving subjects, photo unblur, and dynamic and enhancements, and reimagine features are really good.
Why Fold 6 is the better phone:-
-
One-handed usability is a significant advantage for the Fold 6 compared to the Pixel. This is not just about handling the phone when it’s folded, but also when it’s unfolded. The Pixel’s wider design and different weight distribution make it difficult to use one-handed in its unfolded state.

I’m not sure why, but the Fold 6 screen appears less reflective to me. Even though the Pixel 9 Pro’s brightness is set to automatic and seems a bit higher, I find the Fold 6’s display more visually pleasing. The text looks richer and more comfortable to read. If anyone knows how to adjust the reflection or screen color accuracy on the Pixel 9 Pro, please let me know in the comments.

It's not a big deal, but I appreciate that the fingerprint/power button is positioned on the lower side of the Fold 6. Very easy to reach and and also unlocks instantly without waking up the phone.

This is a major major go for me and for anyone who uses multiple apps at the same time, first of all, you can't open more than two apps on the pixel, also if you already have two apps open, you can't replace just one, you have initiated another split session. On Fold 6, you can open more than two apps, you can move the apps forth and back, you can make one smaller one bigger, one up one and the other one down, and have a full menu on the top of the app which gives you many options. Another major issue in this category is that the back/forward close actions will work based on the app you touch on the Fold 6, the Pixel 9 pro is not like that, it will work only on the first app you selected once you created the split app. This is very very poor on the Pixel side.

Goodluck swipe gestures are a major win for the Fold 6. Now I can swap diagonal up for auto-rotate, straight for back, down for handed mod using the right side, on the left side I set up for screenshot, straight for notification panel down, and down for screen recording. Additionally, I can use routines if needed, on the other hand, the pixel doesn't have any these!

I think this is not a unique feature for the Fold 6 but all Samsung devices can play multiple audio at the same time, the pixel mutes my TikTok and WhatsApp audios when I am on call. Sometimes it does play but stops right again. The iPhone also does mute audios if there is another app using it so maybe Samsung is the only one who can multi play???

The Fold 6 is noticeably lighter. I am already using a thin carbon fiber case for my fold 6 and it still feels lighter than my skinless Pixel 9 fold.
-
Obviously, many people use Spen with their Galaxy folds and it is a major win for the Galaxy F6 but I personally don't use it however there is a feature I use every day that I don't see it in Pixel 9 pro fold, smart select. You can select an image, or a specific area, pin it save it, or share it on the spot without leaving your screen, the pixel doesn't have it. You can hit recent apps, hit select but it doesn't give you many options.

Two independent home screens front/unfolded for the Fold 6 is a real win.
I received the Pixel 9 Fold today, so I’ll update this post as I use both devices.
Btw I'm doing something similar haha
So far my list is as follows
Z fold pros

inner screen notfication/quick panel is brilliant
the child friendly made you look is super useful
google native apps work better in portrait split view don't need to make it landscape
face id is way better
Btw I'm Very conflicted which to keep (i think the fold is better today but if google shows some love to the foldable software the pixel will be better device again if they do that I'm worried they won't lol)
Both negatives way behind the Chinese phones in terms of crease
Excellent, you make my things easier but I will also continue testing and see if we come up with the same conclusion.
Got to keep which one is better today. Can't count on software updates that may never come.
I have both devices, and am also trying to figure out which one to keep. The thinness of the pixel and simplicty of pure Android is appealing. However something about thw inside screen being a almost square is off from a ux stand point.
On the Samsung I really appreciate the ultra slim bezels and being able to have two distinct aspect ratios (long vs wide) on the inside screen. It seems like it's an overall better software experience and more manageable.
I'm on the fence but leaingin towards keeping the F6.
I opted for the 6 fold last week, got it a couple days ago, mainly because in addition to everything else, the price-to-have was only $850 for the 512gb version before tax after discounts and trade-in and I couldn't swallow the $1495 that the 9 pro fold would cost, using the same device as trade-in. That $650 difference was too much to me.
I have to say I was worried about the usage of the cover screen on the fold 6 based on feedback that typing was difficult, but I found, as someone who uses glide typing, it's not a problem at all.
What I was surprised at was how comfortable the 6 fold is when using it one handed, especially when open. It felt like a feather and so neutral with weight distribution, and I understand how silly that sounds.
I still go back to still camera that I can't shake whether I made the right decision. I am always let down by samsung camera for my kid and pets or people that move, especially in reduced lighting. However, given the utility of all of the foldable-focused and large-format-focused software features samsung has and some ways that google is clearly lacking, I'll take the tradeoff of incidental-use camera for certain specific conditions against the things that I will use throughout the day every day I use it.
I am not anti-pixel-fold, I just think that google is still not where they need to be in terms of software ui features and fit-and-finish and I hope they continue to improve.
How do you find multi app usage? Can you open a few apps or is it only the 2 apps side by side as the maximum?
What do you think about the rounded apps when in split screen view? Personally, I think the Samsung looks better
What do you think about the ratio when an actual video is displayed?
How do you find the comparison of the screens when folded? Is it easier to type on the pixel?
Just a few Qs off the top of my head
Thanks
The pixel's split screen is very very poor, first of all you can't open more than two apps, also you don't have many options when you open the two apps, basically, two apps side by side and that is it, on Samsung, you have a full menu on the top of the app, you can change the side, the position close one app and bring another one instead, you can even open Four, Five apps at the same time, limitless, another major issue is that when you open two apps on pixel fold, the back/forward actions will work for the first app, you can't change that, on the fold 6 you can just touch the app and then back button will work on that app.
Some apps don't even work on split screen on the 9 pro fold, Reddit doesn't even work at all, it freezes and no fix for it at the moment. I just received the phone few hours ago, I will update you in couple of hours in this exact comment.
Btw just wanted to add I'm currently traveling and a lot of google ai features don't work where I am on holiday but all of samsungs do (small issue but just wanted to mention)
How annoying is the square inner ratio for single apps on the pixel? I feel like there are going to be a ton of apps where things are a little awkward or cut off and you'll have to go back to the outer screen.
