I’ll update this post daily as I use both devices and share my opinions with you. While there are other foldable phones available—some of which might outperform these two—most US consumers tend to favor Samsung or Google due to factors like updates, tech and software support, and carrier compatibility.
Why Pixel is the better phone:-
Easy to type on the cover screen, especially for people who don't use the Swype function or the mic.
Speech recognition is significantly better on the Pixel 9 Pro Fold compared to Google’s own microphone on my Fold 6. When I spoke the same sentence, the Pixel 9 Pro Fold transcribed it accurately, while the Fold 6 did not. Additionally, the feature where you can simply say "send" to send a message works on the Pixel 9 Pro Fold but doesn’t seem to function on my Fold 6.
Battery is better on Pixel 9 pro.
Pixel's camera is better, easy to capture moving subjects, photo unblur, and dynamic and enhancements, and reimagine features are really good.
Why Fold 6 is the better phone:-
One-handed usability is a significant advantage for the Fold 6 compared to the Pixel. This is not just about handling the phone when it’s folded, but also when it’s unfolded. The Pixel’s wider design and different weight distribution make it difficult to use one-handed in its unfolded state.
I’m not sure why, but the Fold 6 screen appears less reflective to me. Even though the Pixel 9 Pro’s brightness is set to automatic and seems a bit higher, I find the Fold 6’s display more visually pleasing. The text looks richer and more comfortable to read. If anyone knows how to adjust the reflection or screen color accuracy on the Pixel 9 Pro, please let me know in the comments.
It's not a big deal, but I appreciate that the fingerprint/power button is positioned on the lower side of the Fold 6. Very easy to reach and and also unlocks instantly without waking up the phone.
This is a major major go for me and for anyone who uses multiple apps at the same time, first of all, you can't open more than two apps on the pixel, also if you already have two apps open, you can't replace just one, you have initiated another split session. On Fold 6, you can open more than two apps, you can move the apps forth and back, you can make one smaller one bigger, one up one and the other one down, and have a full menu on the top of the app which gives you many options. Another major issue in this category is that the back/forward close actions will work based on the app you touch on the Fold 6, the Pixel 9 pro is not like that, it will work only on the first app you selected once you created the split app. This is very very poor on the Pixel side.
Goodluck swipe gestures are a major win for the Fold 6. Now I can swap diagonal up for auto-rotate, straight for back, down for handed mod using the right side, on the left side I set up for screenshot, straight for notification panel down, and down for screen recording. Additionally, I can use routines if needed, on the other hand, the pixel doesn't have any these!
I think this is not a unique feature for the Fold 6 but all Samsung devices can play multiple audio at the same time, the pixel mutes my TikTok and WhatsApp audios when I am on call. Sometimes it does play but stops right again. The iPhone also does mute audios if there is another app using it so maybe Samsung is the only one who can multi play???
The Fold 6 is noticeably lighter. I am already using a thin carbon fiber case for my fold 6 and it still feels lighter than my skinless Pixel 9 fold.
Obviously, many people use Spen with their Galaxy folds and it is a major win for the Galaxy F6 but I personally don't use it however there is a feature I use every day that I don't see it in Pixel 9 pro fold, smart select. You can select an image, or a specific area, pin it save it, or share it on the spot without leaving your screen, the pixel doesn't have it. You can hit recent apps, hit select but it doesn't give you many options.
Two independent home screens front/unfolded for the Fold 6 is a real win.
I received the Pixel 9 Fold today, so I’ll update this post as I use both devices.
