Plex: Please check that the file exists and the necessary drive is mounted

So I just noticed that one of my movies in Plex would not play, with the error message:

Please check that the file exists and the necessary drive is mounted

Looking in Krusader, the file is definitely there. Checking each drive individually on unRAID, it seems like drives 1, 4, and 8 each have a folder for this movie, but only drive 4 actually contains the movie. Is this the cause? And if so, what's the fix?

Other movies seem to also have empty folders on a couple of drives, but they play fine.

This has happened with 3 movies to my knowledge, all of which Radarr had decided to re-download in the last two days despite having met the cutoff for quality, and therefore having no reason to download.

There's clearly something going on, but I can't wrap my head around what it is.

restart plex.

I only get this error when my plex container starts up before my NFS connection has been made.

Is there a way to make the plex container wait to start until the NFS connection has been made?

3 years later and this helped me lol. We had a hurricane and I lost power, after rebooting I got this error, and it was exactly what you said. thanks!

NFS?

This helped me after a power outage. My setup is all in proxmox whith an ubuntu vm running docker & plex. Then a Truenas VM for my fileshare

For any windows plex users right here using an external HDD for storage , go to the settings and manage the library and re-add the folders like Movies , TV Shows ,etc. The issue will be gone after it re-adds and scans the stuff again.

I had the same issue and it took me way too long to figure it out , finally got it fixed off a old youtube video.

This issue is basically caused when someone ejects the external HDD by yanking it out without going in the toolbar and ejecting it that way.

got this on truenas core, basically the mounting point for please has to just be one for all media. i had created 2, one for video and other for music plex couldnt find the video folder using the old path anymore as it now points to music now. live and learn

Had this happen to me in a weird way and what I had done was unplug my external drive and plugged it back in and what I didn't see was somehow my drive letter changed. All I had to do was to go to disk management and change the drive letter back to the one I had plex assigned to and all my stuff came back. I hope this helps someone

Had this happen to me since last Windows update and restart. If Plex is opened as administrator the mapped network drives aren't seen. If Plex is opened the usual way all the mapped drives appear.

I didn't have to open services, change ownership of mapped drives or use PFEdit although those would have been good things to try

I clicked the 'Scan Library Files' for all my libraries and it worked for me.
