4K over Ethernet

Hey all.

I need to run a 4K HDCP 2.2 compliant signal over ethernet.

The run isn’t terribly long, maybe 15 feet, it’s just the conduit wouldn’t fit an HDMI cables plug.

We currently have dual Ethernet cat6 ran, and I have one passive HDMI receiver and sender hooked up.

I am having zero issue passing a 1080p signal. But for example my FireTV 4K results in no signal on my TV.

Is there anyway to do this passive? And remain HDCP 2.2 compliant? I really don’t want to introduce having to power a receiver and sender on both ends.

Links to equipment would be helpful, thanks so much!

Would a mini hdmi fit through? Just use a cable with mini hdmi on one end and an adapter to go back to full size once it's through the wall.

The word you're looking for is "balun". While you can find 4K capable baluns, to the best of my knowledge none of them are passive.

Example of a balun that's exactly what you're asking for, except not passive: https://smile.amazon.com/SDS-Extender-HDBaseT-Supports-Bi-directional/dp/B0107W8UP2/

Knowing the word "balun" will get you much better search results than just putting in the cable specs (this is a search I've been down before).

What you might consider is a PoE (Power over Ethernet) balun kit. This one is pricey... but it supports 4K, and you only have to plug one side of it in (either the transmitter or the receiver) to power, and it'll power the other device over the same cat6 cable that the video signal is transmitted over. So you only need to run the single cable, and whichever end has trouble supplying power won't need it. https://smile.amazon.com/AV-Access-Extender-Uncompressed-Supports/dp/B01GYL54JK/

Wyrestorm make a HDbT kit where you only have to power one balun at one end. Think the model number is EX-35 or something

HDBaseT is what you want. No issues with 4k over CAT6 at even 100M if you have the right adapters.

You can get HDMI connectors you finish yourself. But I'm not sure if spec compliance.

You could also look into putting an HDMI mini or micro cable in the conduit.

Ethernet in this context is it the real deal, i.e. a link layer protocol, or is it the twisted pair wiring and rj-45?

Are you in the UK?

You could do worse than try the HDanywhere kit

http://www.awe-europe.com/brands/HDanywhere/Point-to-Point-Extenders/XTND4K40-4K-40m-Extender-250709-XTND4K40

This extender will do 4k / hdmi 2.2 as per your request.

Not sure how fiddly it is but you could cut off one of the HDMI cable heads, feed it through and then rewire it on the other side.
