Startech.com rack build quality

Discussion

I have bought a 26U rack a while ago and before I could even hang it on the wall, the door hinge came undone. I dismissed it as a one-off occurrence, glued it back and didn't think twice about it.

I just got a new 42U rack and it has many more build quality issues. One of the latches' spring doesn't work, so it doesn't lock the side panel. Another side panel is bent. One of the rails isn't seated properly and bolted to the frame which bent it. Am I just unlucky or Startech.com build quality went down significantly?

Update: I was able to fix all of these issues myself. Figured it would be faster than wait for some sort of official resolution. In addition to these, I'm pretty sure the side rails were installed upside-down. They have this notch that supposed to lock into the frame and make sure the weight is transferred directly onto the frame with screws just keeping the rail tight to the frame. With them installed as pictured above, all the wait would be just on the screws and the puny cage nuts. The rack is rated at 2000 lbs load capacity. I'd like to see how it would have handled that weight with the installation like that...

Weird, I have the 12u version that you can change in depht an it has worked very good without any problems and deformities.

Have you looked at Shipping damage when you got it ? And have you ask them about support or replacement parts ?

This, get in touch with them, they will help you all the way, had a 42u damaged as well and they sent replacement parts down to Mexico at no cost, which included a door latch and an inner rail just like the one you posted and a big box of bolts since we were missing like 8 or 9 from shipping from amazon.

I think this is all happened during assembly. There were no shipping damage that I could see. The rack was bolted onto the pallet, with nice padding and sturdy box that had no visible damage to it. But I will try to reach to them and see what they say. A bit disappointed though...

Their 12U open frame adjustable depth rack is a beast.

We had one 4-post rack that was missing parts, but the other StarTech cabinets were great. It's been my experience that buying anything from Amazon.com is a hit-and-miss. Too many repacked used items marketed as "New".
