How long does internet installation take?

Internet

I got fiber internet and the default selection is to have a tech come out and install it. I read online this can take 4 hours. Has anyone gotten their internet installed and how long did it take? Also, could I just go to the store, pick up the modem, and install it myself although it never gave me that option when I registered online?

You can’t pick up modems, RG. stores don’t have them, if you had fiber installed at your residence prior they would ship you a modem and then customer self install. Since they have a install scheduled you don’t have ran yet. Installs I’ve done typically run anywhere from 2-4 hours. If your in the “sticks” I’ve had jobs run 6-8 hours. Depending on the size of your home most of the work is getting the fiber to your house, then it depends on where you want your RG installed. I’ve started jobs without the customer being there many time’s because I had to climb a lot of poles or run a lot of underground fiber. Hope it works out well for you.

It depends on how they come into the house, plus how and where they need to go within the house, etc. Hard to give an exact installation time. I would definitely allow for a good few hours.

Like 2 days when I had AT&T

For mine it took about 3 hours. They had to run a fiber line from the street to my network closet.

It was a good 3 hours. I had same experience where tech had to run fiber from street to entry point in house, then fish it through pipe to interior closet in house. Once he did that he needed to go to some central location to activate the fiber. This is at new construction.

This clearly was not a possible self-install installation.

Mine took about 3-4 hours. The bulk of the time the techs walked around, planned how to get the fiber to the house, then actually climbing the pole and running the fiber to, then inside the house. If your house already has fiber run to it, then it could take much less time.

Edit to add: then a couple of weeks later a crew came by to actually take the fiber laying on the ground and bury it in the yard. I didn't need to be home for that work.

Mine took about 3 hours. This was new construction. I made the inside part as easy as I could for the tech - I let them install the RG in the garage where the service conduit was and utilize the CAT6A the builder installed from there to get to the media panel inside. Still took quite a while for them to get the fiber lit up and going.

Was the builder Pulte?
