Well the fact that you only need 4 ports goes to show how much demand there is.

I want 24 ports of 10 GB ethernet, but I can't find any 24 Port switches at all. New or used, that are less than $2,000. I can't even get the stupid Netgear switches, because Netgear doesn't sell them directly, and none of their networking gear dealers will sell to an individual.

Not a lot of demand for 2.5 Gbps networking gear. Most consumers get by just fine with 1 Gbps and enterprise equipment that actually needs more speed is usually 10 Gbps.

I think it's the fact that a lot of ISPs are starting to offer 2Gb plans now.

Supply & Demand. Basic economics. IMHO I never got why 2.5G or 5G is needed when 10G exists since over 10 years, and you can get pretty much everything dirt cheap second hand.
