2.5gig switches still in the 100+ range 2+ years later.. ??
Just trying to find a simple 4 port 2.5gig switch from a well known company. Not sure I trust any of the $75 to $100 china ones. But those are even expensive. 2+ years ago they were about $130.. I bought one. Why are they STILL that same price 2+ years later? Yet I can get a 5 port 1gig for like $15 on a good day.
Well the fact that you only need 4 ports goes to show how much demand there is.
I want 24 ports of 10 GB ethernet, but I can't find any 24 Port switches at all. New or used, that are less than $2,000. I can't even get the stupid Netgear switches, because Netgear doesn't sell them directly, and none of their networking gear dealers will sell to an individual.
Yeah, made no sense for me, I went straight for 10G

Not a lot of demand for 2.5 Gbps networking gear. Most consumers get by just fine with 1 Gbps and enterprise equipment that actually needs more speed is usually 10 Gbps.
I think it's the fact that a lot of ISPs are starting to offer 2Gb plans now.
Gotta wait 2.5 years
I'll wait 5 to 10.
market demand, technology itself might involve more expensive components, Manufacturer , and lack of significant competition will raise cost for switch
Supply & Demand. Basic economics. IMHO I never got why 2.5G or 5G is needed when 10G exists since over 10 years, and you can get pretty much everything dirt cheap second hand.
