Bought the C4, worried about burn-in
Burn-in seems to be talked about non stop on these OLEDS. I bought one two days ago but am concerned it won't last like my living room tv will. I just use it for streaming tv and youtube in bed a couple hours a night, though admittedly im watching on it right now, honeymoon phase and all. How concerned should I be?
It seems like the manual and user experiences and even the guy at costco say these things are guaranteed to be burned in by year 5, if not earlier. If this is the case I might make a switch. The sale on this tv recently was too good to pass up, at 700 dollars it seemed like the other tv's in this price zone got absolutely crushed, but I also don't want to be replacing it in a couple years.
My old bedroom tv has been kicking around for around 13 years. If it's just going to munch itself I might just go with another option. I also feel like I probably don't make the most of it since it will probably be rare that I game on it but that is an excellent feature of this panel, so I might give it a whirl just to experience. I do wonder if most of the burn in incidences are because people are constantly using these things as monitors and not just to watch content on.
Newer OLEDs have burn in protection like screen shift and pixel refresher to help prevent it.
Is that automatic or u have to do it yourself?
I have an LG from 2018, it has screen shift and pixel refresher - didn't help with mitigating burn in, which has been really bad. However - when I got the TV I set the picture to be very punchy and bright (something that is advised against to minimise burn in), and the main culprit has been youtube. The youtube logo top right is visible along with the red video progress bar, in addition, the Netflix logo has caused problems (as that is red which appears to be a major weakness) and there is a patch in the center of the screen that is visibly dimmer - I assume because that's mainly peoples faces are in the shot - centered in the frame. There are also some squares on the right hand side of the screen which are from youtube channels where the author has their face inside a white box at the side of the screen in every video.
The problem is that the red diodes weaken over time and that has meant that when showing colours that have a strong red component (red, yellow, skin tones, white etc.) the affected areas seem dimmer and you have a 'burnt in image', but its more burned out diodes.
I read a while ago that manufacturers have made the red diode larger so it doesn't burn out so quickly, but the pixel refresher and screen/logo shift are pretty useless from my experience.
Still concerned about getting another OLED given I have a bright room and therefore need higher brightness settings, but according to the experts they're the best picture quality.
It definitely comes down to use case. If you watch the same program or the play the same game non stop, you're going to experience burn in. I've been using the LG C1 65" and 77" since 2021. No issues thus far. I listed my 65" locally because I replaced it with a bigger OLED. As long as you let the TV run the pixel refreshes; vary your content, and avoid prolonged periods of static images, you'll be fine.
I have an OLED that is 8 years old with zero burn in and still has the same incredible picture quality I love. Not sure who these people are that talk about it 'constantly' but it hasn't been my experience at all.
What's your hours watched and typical usage?
I also just purchased an 83” C4, and noticed there’s a picture mode called something like “pixel care” (or similar…not sure, I’m out of town), and I’ve been meaning to ask this sub if that’s a mode or setting I should enable to mitigate burn-in.
Return the C4 buy a LED television and don’t worry about burn-in. It’s just as simple.
It’s talked about with 5-10 year old models, newer models are fine, and it’s basically a non-issue now if you have a brain and don’t leave a static image on the screen for hours and hours every day.
I have a 77C9 (2019 model) and it’s as perfect as the day I turned it on.
it had the best burn in prevention..Abl on the other hand, you should tell me your experience later
