Trivia
- Mag's given name is inspired from a shortened form of magnetism, used in a feminine fashion (see: Magdalene). Other possible inspirations include the concept of magnitude, a tribute to her affinity for dealing "in extremes".
- Mag replaced
Volt as an initial choice of Warframe in Update 7.0 (2013-03-18), though Volt would later replace
Loki as a starter Warframe choice in Update 14.0 (2014-07-18).
- The energy of Mag's helmet can be colored with the Warframe's energy colors, instead of the emissive colors.
- Mag is the first female Warframe to possess a Prime variant.
- Both of Mag's alternate helmets are named after the Gauss projectile accelerator consisting of one or more coils used as linear electromagnets to accelerate a magnetic or conducting projectile to high velocity. Weapons using said mechanic are commonly referred to as either Gauss guns or Coilguns.
Gauss, another Warframe inspired by the creator of the mechanism mentioned above, has an alternate helmet (Gauss Mag Helmet) which is deliberately a reversal of one of Mag's alternate helmets, the Mag Gauss Helmet.
- A Mag is briefly shown in Livestream 17 along with Alad V.

Super underrated frame, wow no one ever uses the starter frame Mag. Honestly so powerful doesn't need any changes. TOP TEIR.
She does need one change and that's her 3. It doesn't scale well, doesn't strip armor well, and can't provide overshields. It's useful in a pinch for quick shield restore but it falls flat everywhere else. The rest of her kit is pretty darn good.
Yeah her 3 suffers a bit but the magnetize bubble pulling in the leftover shards does enough damage to melt anything thats not a heavy up to like lvl 400 steel path. Its usable atleast.
I think the reworks to shield gating and armor were actually quite nice to polarize. Even at base, one cast grants 1.4 seconds of shield gate, and cuts the EHP of armored enemies from 10x to 6x. Plus it has over double the base range of Crush. I generally prefer casting polarize over dealing with the painfully long cast time of Crush. Overshields would be nice though.
For a frame that revolves its kit on magnetic damage, her abilities lacks applying magnetic status effects.
Well since the magnetic rework, it would surely be broken if it does...
They really couln't think of a passive huh.........
Suffers from 'old'. It used to be an alright passive back when Vacuum was exclusive to the Carrier sentinel. Now it's just uhh.. there.
And she is a really good Warframe so I don't see a rework happening.
I mean she doesn't need a full rework, just a change to a passive or make it slightly larger than Vacuum and Fetch(15m maybe?)
Or make it combine with Vacuum and Fetch.
Mag was my starter on an old laptop which I could barely play on, but still fun. More than a decade later when I have EVERYthing unlocked I can go back to playing this 75 plat starter frame and be amazed. Same thing with Excalibur with how fluid dat 1 is now. HUGE thanks to all the DE coders for making such a fun game!!!
Mag Prime Set is quite expensive so I'm planning to just play regular Mag. But seeing the increased Health, Energy, Armor, and Shield stats makes me feel like Mag is usually too weak! Quite confused as to whether Mag Prime is worth its high price
Mag Prime is expensive because she hasn't been available in quite a while (1.5 years off the top of my head). Remember, a frame's power is not necessarily determined by their stats, but instead by their abilities. Both Mag and Mag Prime are incredibly strong Warframes, so I would just recommend getting base Mag (the farm takes 30 mins or smth, it's not long), and if you like her you can make the decision whether or not to get the Prime later. Prime versions of frames have a substantially smaller difference than weapons.
This game is all about mods, if you decide if a frame is good or not based on their base stats then u will only play 3 frames.
Love this new 1999 site look <3
Brings back some memories...
This is stupid how strong this frame is compared to anything
Mag is such a good frame. she has so much going for her and i swear like 3 people actually play her
Shhh!
First rule of Mag Club. You do not talk about Mag Club
So.. Does anyone know a warframe with even more useless passive ability?
Like y'know, when everyone carry a fetch\vacuum with 11.5m and 13m radius, and DE just be like "hehe 8m, not even stacking with companion loot vacuum, eat this you players"
It stacks with companion mods bro are you daft?
^^^As the other person pointed out, it is literally on this wiki page that it does NOT stack with companion mods. If you Google it, it's just people saying that it does not stack and that it should.
What was the reason for calling them daft when YOU are the one who clearly can't read?
I mean, Mag and prime version are a bit old, maybe the page is not updated with new info and does stack? Still dont tested myself.
It does not stack.
I cast the magnetize ability on an enemy but it doesn't start at full duration. It would either be 3 or 1 second. Does anyone run into this problem?
Not really a 'problem' so much as a 'feature', even though it's an annoying one for 'balance' reasons. Bosses and higher-than-total-trash-mobs have some sort of inherent 'ability effectiveness reduction' attribute when it comes to ability duration for some abilities, and Mag's Magnetize is one of those.
Dang, wish it was more noticeable in game. Ancient Disruptors are basically stronger nullifiers. Another reason infested are a sore spot for mag.
The pull rework into a vortex is pretty funny if you've played since 2013. For those who don't know or don't remember at one point, before the current ragdoll physics, Mag's Pull basically just sprawled enemies on the floor and slid them along the ground to Mag's feet while also turning off their collision with other enemies. A decent shotgun with Punch Through could basically KO an entire room.
Then it changed to the ragdoll Pull we had for most of the past 10 years, give or take some tweaks and more than a little physics fixing... (when they first made it Ragdoll it had like a 10-20% chance of insta-killing basically any enemy due to wonky physics and the physics damage calculation)
Now, almost 9 years to the day after the original Ragdoll Pull was introduced, we've come full circle and I think that's great! 😁
Heirloom skin is missing in cosmetics
Fed her to the wall last night so that my Hydroid Prime can have her pull ability.
So you could pull tentacles out? xD
Sadly Mag is way too squishy. So many frames that feel so bad to play because they don't have any survivability powers.
Shield gate doesnt count because there are all but 3 frames that cant use shield gate. saying mag is not squishy is like saying 90% of the frames is not squishy.
Hildryn has like 10 times shield compare to mag.
By your definition operator is the most tanky unit because you take no damage in void mode.
Not that many frames can actually regenerate their shields fully with a single button press natively, while reaching the maximum invincibility threshold. There are Harrow, Hildryn, Trinity and Mag, obviously.
Contrary to the Operator, Mag can keep doing her job while staying invincible, so the comparison doesn't hold.
Sure, most warframes can shieldgate, but Mag can do so natively, without having to mod anything weird or sacrificing an helminth slot to survivability, and doesn't need to run Catalyzing Shield to do so properly, so her shield can actually eat stray shots without necessarily breaking.
I have, in an abominable frenzy of masochistic fervor, mained Mag for the last couple years.
I have tried a bunch of different helminths and invested a full set of tau archon shards into her as soon as I could, and I have to say, all of these comments are correct, 100%.
Even with all the archon shards and helminths and invigorations one can hope for, Mag is very squishy and not a very good frame, and no one who values anything at all should play her. She does not have a go-fast ability, so she is always stumbling into extraction two minutes after everyone else and she has no iron skin analogue ability = obviously garbage troll bait frame by DE. Nothing to see here.
There are people claiming she requires skill but this is plainly sadism because Warframe is a low-skill game, and even Mag requires very little skill, just slightly more than usual due to the squishiness. I mean, look at these comments describing all these dreadfully complex strategies for playing Mag; that's crazy talk. Who could hope to remember all that, really? People should just be able to press 4 and teleport to extraction with all enemies dead and all loot collected.
However, I will, for the good of the community, just play another 1000 hours with Mag to make sure of my claims. But no one else should. I don't want anyone else to suffer such a terrible misfortune.
But in truth, the greatest tragedy of all, and the most terrible weakness of this underpowered squishy sad frame: most of Mag's skins are very old and have relatively few polygons on the booty. :( :( :( DE this should not be so. We, the probably less than five person Mag playerbase, call for shapely justice to be served.
Be safe fellow Tennos, and remember: don't play Mag. Please.
Thanks for commenting, this was art.
But also... *hefts a bandolier of magnets onto my shoulder*
I'm... I'm sorry old friend... I've heard your warnings, but I must try...
(spoiler: he dies. R.I.M.)
Magnetize's description card says the same for both the tap / hold functionality, could that be corrected please?
Fixed, thanks. Seems like DE also updated Mag's ability descriptions recently. Not sure when exactly. Now includes mention of "Polarize Shards".
@Cephalon Scientia , She received a rework
More tweaks than a full rework. Most of her abilities are still fundamentally the same, just Pull got changed and Magnetize got an added ability to match the Trailer, which is pretty cool!
Great changes all around, and super happy the bloody Polarize Shards have defined stats now!
Looks like the passive on her info card for both regular and Prime hasn't been updated yet (i.e. having to bullet jump) - new one reads as 'Nearby items gravitate towards Mag for easy collection' in-game.
Her base skin is so fugly I wonder why DE didn't do a full rework of her. Also rework the icons.
It's the same model that came out in 2012 save for PBR texture update.
Wisp's ass has more polygons than her entire body.
Well, at least we get a need awesome skin from the heirloom collection?
Try Graxx Skin with the original helmet in deep red and black. She's the leather goddess of BDSM death :D The most sexy frame skin in the game.
^nah, her original helmet is too small and looks goofy; Graxx skin + Induction helmet is the ultimate Mag fashion and it's by far the closest thing to a normal human just wearing a suit in WF.
Hydroid is kinda bad but then there's Mag.
Bad?? Mag is one of the best high-level mass killers out there. a platoon of level 150 grinners melts in second
Ok i wanted to give my thought on the "mag is bad" subject. I think mag is actually so good that shes actually bad. Like she has such insane control and damage potential with helminth system, but there is no content in this game that needs that amount of power. Even level cap enemies feel weak against mag, but level cap is not a realistic thing outside of endurance disruptions.
To reach mags full potential we need better content in this game, level capping circuit is the closest we got atm.
Mag kills the portal defense pretty quickly. She was way ahead of her time.
Well that aged well (Hydroid rework)
Half of the time i struggle to target enemies with skill 2. it need very strict targeting scope to be activated
Random advice: try bulletjumping over target's head and tap 2 mid-air, so it'd be easier to target the right one mob.
Mag's passive hasn't worked since it was changed, please add this to the bug section.
Not gonna lie, the Amethyst Skin's Helmet for Mag is pretty neat actually.
Well, particles in the visor anyway. I use it over the default helmet when I get the chance to.
Shame it's discontinued with no way of ever getting it again.
(For those wonder, the Amethyst Skins were for the Discord Promos for back when Discord had a gaming tab. Yes, that was a thing.)
