Is it worth getting an rx 7900 xtx if you can't enable SAM?
I am looking to buy an rx 7900xtx for the 24gb of vram, but I have an i7 13700k therefore I can't enable SAM, however according to some videos SAM improves the framerate by a lot so is it worth getting it or should I buy the rtx 4080?
You can enable Resizable Bar, which is the same thing. I have the same setup. But you will need to verify your motherboard supports it and how to enable it.
i have an asus z790 prime a wifi and it supports resizable bar.
I find that smart access memory as it stands, isn't that important. The only video card that really sees a big benefit is the Intel ARC cards.
Who’s Sam?
SAM is my uncle.
SAM or REBAR similar thing different name.. it's on all mobo (I think, maybe not some lower end?) Anyway, it's only a few %... only Intel Arc work a lot worse without rebar, like -30%
Can you check with GPU-Z in the advance tab > Rebar what it says that you need to enable?
From what I’ve seen it doesn’t make much of a difference and sometimes it performs worse
I doubt it improves the framerate by a lot tbh.
You can enable it it just not called sam
You can enable Resizable Bar aka SAM in your bios and it works well with 7900xtx.
why wont it work well with the XTX
Newer Intel CPUs also support resizable BAR, which is what SAM uses.
The only requirement is that you install windows in UEFI (secure boot) mode - but that is only a concern when upgrading an old windows. Should be enabled by default on newer(-ish) boards and BIOS versions since that is a win11 requirement.
I knew that they were the same thing but I thought that:
- if i picked up nvidia this could be enabled both on intel and amd CPUs
- if i picked up amd this could be enabled only on AMD CPUs
so what you are saying is that if i pick the rx 7900xtx I can't enable what amd calls SAM but I can enable the resizable bar feature which does and perform the same as sam?
why can't you enable SAM? It's just a fancy name for resizeable BAR that's also on Intel's motherboards
see my comment above.
You'll be able to enable SAM. It's just called resizeable bar on Intel's platform. You'll be fine. The 7900 XTX is a damn good GPU and should roar with the 13700K. Good luck with whatever you end up doing.
Enable resize bar in the bios then you should be ok.
i will go for an RTX 4080 with your CPU, if you want the best performance with AMD GPUs, use AMD CPUs
I didn't downvote you, but OP don't listen to this foolishness. lol
