For anyone having problems with the 7900 XTX and XT
A month ago i purchased a Sapphire Nitro RX 7900 XTX, the card has an amazing performance, but i noticed a little bit of stutter in some games and WRC generations crashed sometimes
After testing some settings, finally i don't have any performance issues, this is what i did:
1.-Format your PC to install a clean copy of windows, i'm using windows 11 pro
2.-Update all drivers and windows too (i have the latest adrenalin driver 23.2.2)
3.-In AMD Adrenalin, i'm using the preset "Balanced", you can change it in performance->tuning and gpu tuning control, seems like it works fine with the default setting, i did try the rage preset but the card becomes too noisy.
4.-For some reason, showing the Metrics Overlay of AMD adrenalin causes the stutter in some games (and it was the cause of the crashes in WRC generations), if you want to see your thermals and other info while playing, use another software.
These are the games i tested without upscaling (i have a 1440p monitor, but i'm playing with higher res using Virtual Super Resolution, you can enable it on AMD Adrenalin, settings->display)
Portal 2 and Half Life 2 Update at 8k
These games at 4k Ultra
RDR 2
GTA V
Dirt Rally 2
WRC Generations
Hellblade
Gears 5
Crysis 2 (not remastered)
Atomic Heart
3d Mark Spy Test Directx 12
My specs: Ryzen 9 5900x, ddr4 32GB 3200Mhz, PSU 850 Watts Cooler Master
Hope this can be useful
I noticed my cards don’t like anything except the AMD presets, as well. I use Rage mode on all 3 of mine to avoid crashes. They are a little loud, but I always wear a headset. Every time I do any kind of overclock, undervolt, fan curve adjustment, or anything that would make the card perform better, cooler, and quieter, I get crashes. It’s really frustrating. I see the potential for these cards, but it seems we are hobbled for now.
Yeah, I've noticed this is well. Rage is my go-to, but for Death Stranding it causes very minor artifacting. Totally rock solid in everything else though.
7900xtx here…
Had some issues at first with some stuttering, but I changed monitors and haven’t noticed it. Idle power is high but I only turn it on to game. I didn’t know about resizable BAR, just enabled it.
I prefer to undervolt my card. I’m getting good performance in just about everything and I prefer to see my card run cooler at 10% than run hot and get a few more frames. OC mode gave me 9220 in furmark but stock with -10% power gives me 6900. Big difference in benchies but in game it’s almost not noticeable. When I upgrade my cpu next year or two I might start running at 0% power or try moving to +10-15% but for now I’m good with 4K 120.
I did want to ditch it for a 4080. But my return window is just about up, and at the end of the day it’s cool to be part of team red especially since this is my first red/red build.
Also, the fan curve by default on my card maxes out at like 45% I’d change that immediately if anyone else has a super low default fan curve.
Give me a break. Reinstalling Windows is quite frankly bullshit.
Of course, the OP is just covering his bases, but yes, you are correct. Many people have brand new builds and they are running into this issue upon starting-up their PCs for the very first time. This is exactly what happened to me and therefore, I see no reason to reformat a brand new copy of Windows 11, etc.
If the number 1 trouble shooting tip for a 1000€ GPU is "nuke your whole OS and start over from scratch", you know you bought from AMD...
Yeah. It's not good enough for such a pricey purchase.
For anyone still having this issue here is a solution I found:
