Scarlett 2i2 4th Gen Audio Randomly Drops. 3rd Gen Functions 100%

Since day one I got the new Scarlett, I lose my audio at least 1 to 2 times a day. A quick re-connect always works, or making a subtle change like turning on or off the loopback feature works as well. A split second before the sound cuts out, I hear a quick faint static sound. There's been like 5 or so updates since I purchased it, still same issue. I've completely uninstalled 3rd gen software / drivers, and done all the other basic stuff. My 3rd Gen I tried for a few days, and it has no issues. For me it's hard to tell if it's hardware or software related.

Glad to hear Focusrite has finally fixed their driver issues (not).

The update mid-November completely screwed up the drivers and introduced an issue that all previous generations also had. If you boot up a game or anything else that uses your video card while using Focusrite as an audio driver, the sound will cut out, the game will freeze and crash, and your whole computer will become sluggish. They've had this issue for 5+ years.

I THINK I've been able to get it stable again by reverting to patch 1.84.0 (I think 1.96.0 would work as well). However the drop out issue you are talking about I BELIEVE I've had the entire time (I'm remember awkward Zoom meetings trying to figure out why I couldn't hear anyone). So...yeah...I don't think a rollback helps this issue, but I'll report back if it does.

Turn off High Performance Precision Timer in Device Manager in the BIOS, it can be called "HPET".

Literally, the dumbest issue and the easiest fix.

It throttles the CPU if you have a high performance one, and tries to maintain a current speed for older PC's.

Win 11?
Go to audio settings - more sound settings - richt click Focusrite USB Audio - Prefrences (or something like this) - Advanced - Disable Exclusive Mode (both boxes off).

My audio interface crashed every 3 minutes and since i turned this off i had no problems so far. 2 hours passed till now.

I hope this helps. Sorry for my bad English :P

Same

I have exactly the same issues

A lot of people complain about 4gen software and drivers so it is likely not your device issue. Maybe this time Focusrite rushed a bit with the release of next gen.

I just tried to replace it with my old solo gen2 and it started to do the same thing. Drivers are fcked or maybe Windows did something wrong when I tried to uninstall old ones.

having the same issue. a bit annoying since gen3 was priced extremely competitively but I went for gen4. Glad at least that it is a wide spread issue and not a problem with my setup, I was dreading the idea of doing a clean install or trying to uninstall potentially conflicting drivers, I will just wait for an update, hopefully soon. I agree the sudden drop is not a big deal as refreshing anything related to windows sound device will immediately reconnect.. nevertheless it’s a bit annoying, the other day my audio dropped during a work meeting :-)

It's ironically comic that these units work so good on Linux, when the company have refused to support that platform. We never have to deal with all these issues or install any drivers. It just works like a charm on that OS. LoL.

I remember having same random issues on windows with my 2.gen. and having to reinstall drivers now and then, and reconnect interface etc.
