850w is perfectly fine for the 5080, they are recommended by Nvidia themselves
The 5090 might be dicey tho
We don't know until they are released and independently tested. Conveniently, you don't know performance or pricing until then either, so there's no reason to be concerned about it now anyways.
Definetly not on the 5090, 5080 will be fine though
At this point in time, nvidias recommendation (1000 W for 5090, 850 W for 5080) is all we have to go on. If you need to buy a psu now, go off of that information, if not then just wait until the card is released to reviewers.
If you can afford a 5090, look at a new PSU as just a small Nvidia tax of about 5%-6% on the MSRP. The mortgage payment (or two) can wait!
850w for 5080 is perfect and will only cost one mortgage payment!
Honestly if you're spending 2 grand in a GPU buying a 125 dollars PSU shouldn't be a problem
5090 should be fine for 850W with a CPU like the 9800X3D that doesn't reach past 90W even while bottlenecked, so it'd be around 750W load or 88% load, but given how overbuilt these PSUs are there sould be no issue, it'd just be loud
Since they recommend 1000W for the 5090, 850W will be fine. Same happens with every single release
I believe the 5090 is 1000.

We don’t? Didn’t they say $2000 for the 5090?
