Build Help

Do you want 4090 performance now? Buy a 4090. Dwelling on hypotheticals gains you zero frames.

If op was going to buy today, you'd be right, op should make the purchase, but this is questionable advice since he'll be ready to buy in Q4... and Q4 is when the 5090 may release, or Q1 of 2025.

OP, check back in when you're ready to buy. May make sense to get a used graphics card for ~2 months before splurging for the 5090.

I'd just wait at this point

Almost done saving, and only ready near Q4?
How long have you been saving? 5 years?

What is your screen res and fps?
4090 I would say is not worth the MSRP right now.

I’m waiting for the 5090 after having the 3090… four years for 2 grand… that’s a LOT of dinero to have spent for something you use less than four years. I’m making sure it paid for itself. Hoping the 5090 is awesome, but also realize with it comes upgrading everything, the motherboard, cpu, memory…. So. Real question is, what is going to be unique about the 5090? AI integration?

You have the budget to afford the RTX 4090 + 4K 240Hz QD-OLED monitor.

Is it good value per dollar, absolutely not. But it is essentially the fastest gaming PC that money can buy.

There's always something better just around the corner. But if you already have a PC that you're sort of satisfied with I'd just wait a bit longer.

Historically the xx70 cards have been about on par with the previous gens xx90 cards (not the 4070 tho). You'd be able to either save a lot of money or gain a lot of performance.

You are actually deciding in Q4 it sounds like?

Keep in mind that if you build in Q4 and you want take advantage of the 5090, you need to save a little more as prices are going to be higher on the 5000 series. To really get the most of it you would want a board with PCIE 5 support for the graphics card and obviously a display that take advantage. Also got to factor in what is supply going to be like at release? I can't imagine there are going to be loads of these on the shelves.

The window where we could see the 50 series would be October 2024 - November 2025. A lot of the current information points to Nvidia being able to release in 2024 if they want to. However, stocks of current cards and competition from AMD can dictate this.

They'll most likely do a phased release starting with the 5090 again. It worked really well for the 40-series. They sold way more 4090s than 3090s or 2080 Tis.

You also seem like you really want the most powerful card on the market, in which case you are probably best off waiting. If you but a 4090 you'll probably be happy for now and then regret it as soon as the 5090 hits.
