2i2 recording 2 microphones, on different tracks. (Windows)

Hi I go a focusrite scarlett 2i2 3rd gen, to record a podcast on. there are two of us, and the 2i2 has two XLR so it was perfect.

But.. the audio input is called "analogue 1+2". I can record on two microphones at the same time, but they feed in to the same track. I can't figure out how to split them, in to "1" and "2" to get them on different tracks.

I think i need to change something the windows settings. have been looking through youtube, looks like it is easily done on a mac, but have not seen anyone do it on a pc.

I am om pc (windows 11)
I am useing Audacity
Microphones are samson q2u

I think you use poor recording app. Download any DAW, and it will recognize both input separately. Ableton Live Lite is bundled with your 2i2, so you can get free license.

You can split L and R after recording in Audacity, but yes, a proper DAW is recommended; Reaper is free-to-cheap, but learning curve quite steep.

getting reaper set up to record mic inputs is dead easy

an other DAW was the call, trying Ableton live lite, look like it is working.
