Why did AMD changed 'AMD Freesync' label to VRR in Adrenalin 20.12.1 Global Display setting?

First off, I'm not well versed with tech. This is a small issue, but I thought I'd just rant. So I was trying to set Freesync in 'Global Display' in Adrenalin 20.12.1 for a new 75Hz monitor I bought. Watched Youtube and it was labeled as AMD Freesync for previous versions, but was unable to locate it on My version which labeled it as VRR, or is VRR different from Freesync? It's labeled as AMD Freesync though, when you tune individual game settings.
Like, why would AMD change the label from AMD Freesync to VRR? Its confusing. Aren't AMD proud of their Freesync enough rather than change the labeling to VRR?
Depends on the EDID protocol being used.
My Q80T displays VRR functionality with UHD Colour space enabled... it changes to freesync if i disable that.
At the same time, i have another monitor that is reporting Freesync. And a 3rd display i had hooked up reports adaptive sync.
So i've literally had 3 displays all report something different at the same time. A q80T with VRR, A BenQ 4k reporting Freesync, and a LG display reporting Adaptive Sync.
A side note.. My Q80T in freesync mode has a freesync range of 48-120, while in VRR mode it's 20-120hz
What's strange is it's called "Adaptive Sync Compatible" on my RX6800 rig and still "FreeSync" on my brother's rig with an RX570.

Mine ( 21.2.1 with RX 6800 and monitor: LG 27gl850 using DisplayPort ) says "AMD FreeSync Premium". I wouldn't mind if it said VRR though.
On my simracing rig it says VRR, but on my main PC (with Vega 56) I see Freesync, both running 20.12.1...
Because "Freesync" is AMD's name for Variable Refresh Rate. (VRR) Kind of like how "SAM" is their name for Resizable Bar. It's just slapping a name on something that already existed to make it sound like you invented it.
Actually, Freesync is an extension of Adaptive Sync that also works on HDMI and can have various features not in the original spec. VRR is a protocol from HDMI 2.1 that can be used with 2.0 hardware.
Most likely what people are seeing is the best protocol their hardware supports.
My 5700XT with my BenQ EW-3270U HDR reports Freesync--likely because it's a 4k Freesync 1 monitor, I suppose. Driver 21.2.1. VRR I turn on in Windows. Supports a WCG--Wide color gamut--according to Windows--and 10-bit HDR.
Odd to see all these different settings!
I changed my Motherboard from a Gigabyte Z490 UD to a Gigabyte Z490 Vision G. Using same card, a RX 6700 XT. Originally it said Free-Sync. Now it says Adaptive-Sync Compatible. Also feels different.
Monitor is a Lenovo g27q-20 (non-legion version)
