does it matter which side the psu cable goes in first

ok am just installing a new pc. Yet I realize, for example , that the cable which connects the psu and the CPU_PWR socket has two sides, one is 8pin and the other one is 4+4. So my question is does it matter which side the cable goes if both sides do fit perfectly? Like is it necessary to put the 4+4 OR 8 pin side to the PSU/CPU socket or it does not matter? Same question goes to the other cables that connect the PSU and other components.

usually there is a little tab on once side so it won't sit right if you try to put it in the wrong order. Not going to break anything if you do it wrong and have to retry, you shouldn't be plugging it in while power is going to the PSU anyways.

I know, but my question is what if both sides fit the sockets? For example, the cable that connects the gpu and the psu is one side 8pin and the other side is 6+2pins. Is there a difference between putting the 8pin side to the psu and the 6+2pin side to the gpu and vice versa. Can i take it as I would be fine as long as I can fully plug the cables into the sockets
