The XT is a cut down version of the XTX with 315W vs 355W and 1/6 compute dies and associated memory removed. You lose 1/6th of the power and 4Go of VRAM.

Unless you need 24Go and the max power that the XTX can give, there is no cause to buy it. I guess the XTX could do juuuuust the amount of power you need and the XT would be below your threshold, but apart from that, no, there isn't any real reason currently.

If the 7900XT is 5/6 the performance of the 7900XTX, and assuming the 7900XTX is reasonably priced, then the 7900XT is a steal because accordingly the price should be $882 if we're basing that on 5/6 the price of the XTX. So, at $800, it's the better option. I you need that extra 4gb ram, then you can't get the XT. I haven't even seen stable diffusion models that use 20, so imho XT is the best. If you have extra cash to blow, then go for the XTX, 17% performance uplift would be nice, but I'd only get it if it were around $936. True, it is a higher performing part, but with the extra power draw, I don't consider that worth the tradeoff.

ok that makes a lot of sense, thx for clearing it up that simply.. sounds like the XTX is not worth it for me at this point

For what it's worth, if you're patient you might be able to find a decent deal on a used 7900 XTX. Some people seem to be upgrading and then selling if they are able to get their hands on a 4090. I snagged an essentially brand new reference 7900 XTX for $850 on FB marketplace. No cooling issues that plagued early cards either. Absolute bargain.

The difference is also being able to keep thre card longer as well. That little extra might be enough for you to stretch the ownership an extra year easily, and maybe 2 years.

The 7900XT just got a $100 price cut, which changes the math a bit. I've found a few "open box" 7900XTX cards at my local store for $100 under MSRP, however, which tilts it back to the XTX's favor because the price diff is only $100.

If you can get the XT for 800 I would just get the XT

I opted for the 7900xt. Would have loved to get the xtx but i knew i was already going to have to upgrade my PSU with the xt. Im happy with my decision…. I think. Xt and new power supply cost me just under $1000

The $800 XTs are MBA and the AIB models are at least $850. You can get an AIB 7900XTX for $999 like the Asrock Phantom OCed or the Powercolor Hellhound. So it is $150 difference between AIB models
