7900 xtx and base clocks
Hi, I had a few questions regarding base clocks. While looking into buying a 7900xtx recently I noticed the boost clock is generally 2615 MHz, but the base varies. I've seen 2300, 2455, 2510 and 2525. Is this different due to manufacturers increasing it from improving the card over time or just setting that clock speed from the start of release? If the latter, are the values tested and they just decide that's a safe enough base clock speed to compete with others?
After reading on here I've seen a lot of people recommend the Sapphire Nitro+ RX 7900 XTX Vapor-X. Is this due to the base clock speed being generally higher than others?
Their party card have better coolers allowing for “factory overclock” right out of the box.
You can buy the base “reference” model and manually overclock it to reach the same if not faster speeds. You just do the work your self. If you don’t want to do all that overclocking, buy the fastest boost clock.
So many clocks now, shader is decoupled.
But my front end effective clock often runs to 2800+, varies. We set targets but its the algo that determines what it boosts to, depending on variables like thermal headroom. I can OC and set a max of near 3100 although it won't reach that, undervolting will help it get closer.
It just boosts to whatever is needed. There's a lot of different clocks, and I'd assume the number you're seeing is an average. This is what HWinfo64 says for my clocks
I have the Nitro+ and with the OC bios i saw it clock to like ~2800 boost. It has the best cooler so it has the most OC potential. It also come with the best Factory OC out there.
You don't need to care about the base clock. The card will always boost pass those clocks.
Your CPU matters too, not too experienced but at 4k most titles are carried by your GPU I get similar clocks as you but I don't pay attention to it since running 3dmark and verifying GPU utilization. Be worried when they drastically drop below amds specified game clock
