Tolled to Rest bugged?
So I was doing the quest Tolled to Rest and needed to escort Oskar. I started escorting him and saw the cyclops and the drake fighting it out. We got further into the cenotaph and I found a ballista on the battlements. I decided to fire a cheeky shot at the drake since I hadnt done it yet and wound up in a long fight with said drake. I finally killed the drake, however now Oskar is nowhere to be found. I still have the quest and it doesnt say that I failed the quest and I just have a yellow area marked on my map which is where he is supposed to go to, however he isnt there or in the surrounding area.
I have no way of completing this quest.
Is there any way to abandon the quest or reset it or something? I cant load a save or anything anymore, really stuck on what to do.

Okay, so for anyone who finds this post looks for an answer, good news is I have one for you (hoepfully). So for starters if you have lost Oskar, check back by where you first meet him. If he isnt there leave and come back or rest for a few days or something, maybe even try reloading the game and he should be there. Worst case scenario his dead body will be in the Vernworth morgue (Vermund Charnel House) and you can revive him using a wakestone, although I never had to do this.
Secondly, if you no longer have the book because you either sold it, lost it or used it. You can get another one. It is called "Nation's Death Knell" and it is simply one of those books that lets you cast a spell. In this case it is Meteoron. You can find more, its just its a very rare one to find. There might be other places to find one but there is one you can get very early. In the cave right near the start of the game called "Waterfall Cave" which is here on the map https://imgur.com/FeJHzq5 you can go inside and keep going till you start seeing red Saurian. There will eventually be a room with a bunch of books after a room with a bunch of stuff you can mine. There are some books scattered on the floor but there is a chest and in the chest is the book "Nation's Death Knell". You will have to fight one of those undead litch boss things, so be prepared. A silence spell on you or a pawn will help a lot. Once you have that book you can go back and hand it over to Oskar. Be warned that that cave is massive and very windy. You might have to do a lot of exploring to get there, but trust me its in there.
When I got too far away and lost him, I found him again where I first saw him, in that ruin looking area on the walk up. Check there if you haven't already.
Also, if you choose to go ahead without him DO NOT TAKE THE BOOK FROM UNDER THE BELL. That *actually* bugged the quest for me and got it stuck in limbo because I needed to return it but had no option to.
Yeah I have ran into the same soft lock. I went back and he was there, took him all the way up and he wants the book but I dont think I have it anymore. I even went to the scrap merchant to see if I could make a forgery but no such luck. The book isnt there at all.
did anyone took the book before meeting Oskar? I took the book and now Oskar doesn't even show up!
So, for me, the same thing happened. I believe I ended up too far from him and he appeared at the ruins by the campfire. If you looted the book before he got there, make sure you haven't used it, otherwise, you will soft-lock yourself from the quest. Goodluck!

If you took the book before having the quest but still have the book and cant give it to him... simply save and reload the game. It will work after loading back in.
They really needed to have manual saves and loads in this game. 😕
Mines dead behind a wall still. No way to revive him
If he died, go to vernsworth and check his body in the morgue. Use the wakestone and he should be back in the quest starting point.
i did but i can’t find him…he died in front of me without even giving me time to safe him. I revive him from vernsworth but i can’t find him anymore in front of the battleground…any ideas?
If you still have the quest active, and not much time has passed, die and reload. he is probably dead. you will need a wakestone to revive him. then proceed as normal.
if you have took the book before he arrives, and you didn't use it; you can safely discard it (which drops it on ground) after he asks you to find it. then it will update that you found it. simply pick it up and deliver it to him.
I had the same issue 10 minutes ago and this is how i figured out how to fix it. sometimes his body disappears when he dies. but he still has a chance to be revived. just have to reload.
I lost him and found him many days later dead where he first appeared. I was able to use a wakestone and he revived like nothing had happened.
I probably failed this quest considering I hadn't realized it was a quest yet since seeing the drake from afar I swifly backtracked from the area. Only to run into another drake and use a ferry stone to get out of there lmao
I don't yet feel confident in a fight against a drake tbh considering I just barely managed a Griffin on the way there with Glyndwr in my group on top of three pawns. I mean, I could probably do it but it would definitely be a long fight. And I definitely don't feel confident in keeping a guy alive while fighting such a foe. So, I might have still fled even if I had realized it was a quest before making a swift exit for the capital.
I'm probably going to wait until at least lvl 30 before attempting to fight a drake. I like feeling challenged but only if I feel capable. Definitely not feeling capable atm lol
Same thing with me, i couldn’t find him until i saw an arm clipping out of the mountain side near the ruins where the harpies were. Went to check if it was him and sure enough it was, can’t even carry him or even use a wake stone to revive him either. Wish i can reset the quest or something
So anyone have any ideas? I actually came from the opposite side by wind worm gully, killed the drake then took the book and used it hoping something would happen, now I can’t do anything cause book is now gone and he needs it to progress
I had the same issue after not realising I started this quest and running past it. Last to realise I could not progress the quest. I went to the morgue in Vernsworth found he was dead and revived him. Ran back to the quest location and he was waiting for me.
Does this quest consume the book or can I get it back afterwards?
Bro you saved me, I was getting SO frustrated because I felt betrayed by the game just because I explored. I'm loving the game but MAN if it can be awful sometimes
Defintely don't use or throw away the book as you need this for Myrrdin at the Checkpoint Town, assuming he will lead to some sort of sorcerer maister training potentially idk
