How is the Black Widow v4 (75 and pro)? I am a little scared off by some of what I heard.
I have never owned a Razer keyboard or really any gaming keyboard except for like a red dragon key board years ago, mostly have custom/enthusiast type keyboards but I like razer and own 6 of their mice and want a flagship decked out rgb keyboard that has chroma and can be used as both a gaming keeb and a daily driver for work to kind of round out the setup for when I want to feel like embracing the gamerness aesthsetic with rgb. So when I heard there is a hotswappable 75 percent keyboard with tactiles (an unusual choice for switches but welcomed for multi purpose) I got interested.
However I heard a lot of things about double clicking etc. I had the same thing happen to me when I got the GMMK pro and used their orange pandas. Had to replace like a half a dozen switches, but maybe it was something I did as it was my first time lubing switches or maybe it was just the combo of those switches and that board because the issue never occurred when I used those switches in a different board or put different switches in the GMMK pro.
So I am curious, is it just the switches that are the problem? Because those can be swapped I guess even though I would like to use them. Or is the issue still prevalent?
Also does anybody have the pro version, I am kind of interested in it because I dont really fuck with full keebs much but I like that it has almost everything you could want, knobs, macro buttons, rgb to the max, could work as a daily driver for sure because of the numpad, but the fact its not swappable with the switches is a pretty big down side. Or is there maybe an older razer keyboard or different model anyone recommends?
EDIT: I am most likely going to hold off on the recent line of black widow keyboards or just the v4 pro but am interested in the v3 full keyboard as alterative and will probably get the v4 75 down the road like a year from now if the issues are addressed and was curious what people thought of the v3?
Edit2: ended up getting a v3 to test the waters. It was 80ish bucks. I’ll probably get the v4 at some point.
Search this subreddit for the 75% and you will find many people with issues. It’s very widespread. The keyboard is great when it works. But don’t expect it to work for long
But since its hotswap, you should be able to put in a new switch and keep going right ?
I have the 75% nothing wrong with my switches. I personally have only come across about 2 other people that have had switch issues.
If you are in doubt buy it from BestBuy put their warranty on it. Something goes wrong return it.
Remember also there are ton of people that have this keyboard problem free and are NOT on this forum.
Well my reason for concern was the 3.5/5 star review on Amazon which is usually a red flag if it’s under 4, and I usually go to most recent filter for reviews to get a better read on things before buying something and 7 out of the 8 most recent reviews before I can click to display more were 1 or 2 star reviews also mentioning similar issues. Tell me you wouldn’t be hesitant after seeing that. But I am glad to hear you have had none, I will say that.
I have the Black Widow v4 Pro and LOVE it. I've had to RMA it twice though for the double clicking and JUST received my 3rd keyboard back last weekend and so far it's working great. Also, it appears that Razer finally provided a firmware update for the keyboard so I'm hoping that update will resolve the double typing. I have the green switches and I personally like the loud clicky noise. I might like the orange switches as well but definitely not a fan of Linear switches. I also have the Corsair K100 and I like that as well.
My ONLY complain on the v4 Pro are the media buttons above the number pad. Kind of a pain to get to since it's much lower than the keys.
curious if the new firmware has fixed the issue? anything to follow up? cheers
I am still trying to figure out whether the most commonly reported problem (doubleclicking and/or missing inputs) is due to the stock orange switches that the V4 75% comes with, or whether there is some issue with the board itself? I'm interested in it and since it's howswap, I'd be replacing the stock switches anyway - but if the board is faulty instead, then changing the switches won't save me
If anyone knows, I'd love to hear your input
Some people have said getting new switches resolved the double typing issue for them. Personally, I went through the rma process once due to double typing. Got the second keyboard and within a month it also started double typing. I bought Gateron yellow switches to replace the razer orange switches and within two weeks I have started getting double typing again. So at least for me it seems like it is a board issue and not a switch issue. Currently going through another rma.
My first gaming keyboard was the clicky og blackwidow tournament edition. It sounded and felt great. Solid feeling build with no pinging from the keys. Admittedly it didn't last longer than 2 years before switches started to completely die. I then tried the Huntsman which was optical and the clicks felt terrible. Very inaccurate and weak. Quickly switched to logitech from that and generally liked what I tried from them. Months ago I decided to give Razers then newer Blackwidow v3 a shot and holy shit, it's terrible. The worst pinging I've ever heard, cheap af build and just generally a massive let down. Can't believe they've regressed so hard. I think their newer mice are pretty good though.
I've been using the wooting 60he for 2 years or so and it's been rock steady. I do miss having a good clicky keyboard at times but I have no complaints on what I'm using now.
It's not the switches, trust me. I have replaced ALL of them. It works fine for a few months after that and then the problem shows up again. This is the worst keyboard of all time. So disappointed.
