Is the Ryzen 5 9600X worth the $40 premium over the 7600X?

Build Help

That really comes down to what you feel is worth $40.

  • These 1080p gaming benchmarks show the 9600X performing about 3% better than the 7600X - so put into context, the 9600X would be getting roughly 3fps more in games at that resolution. Keep in mind these results were attained with a 4090, so realistically the difference is probably smaller.

  • These 1440p gaming benchmarks show an even smaller difference, again with the most powerful GPu currently available, so with a less GPu the difference is likely even smaller.

  • These content creation benchmarks from Puget Systems again show a minimal increase in performance.

Best bet is to do comparisons like these and figure out if you think that $40 is worth spending here, elsewhere, or just saved.

Thanks for the links. I should have clarified that this is for an "everyday" build, non-gaming (I am a console guy), so just looking for good "all around" performance and value.

Only if you care about power consumption and overall heat output

I wouldnt really pick 9600x for same price as 7600x tbh. There are cases where it performs worse than 7600x. Tbh these days i was contemplating how far behind we are in cpu progress. 7600 should cost less than 5600 at this point but here we are with 7600 costing close to double that price. Ofc intel is more or less the same in that regard. There is no "free" performance improvement over generations to be seen. Every single bit of it still costs more money.

Id probably try and find a 7700
