Will my power supply be enough for AMD Ryzen 9 5900x?
I am changing CPU's from a AMD Ryzen 5 3600 to a AMD Ryzen 9 5900x with a noctua NH-U12s and don't know if my power supply will be enough or if I need to change it as well. I am currently rocking a Be quiet! System Power 9 700W ATX 2.4 (BN248).
How can I check if it's enough ?
The rest of my build is :
MSI B450 Tomahawk Max, NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2060 6GB Palit StormX, Crucial Ballistix 3200 MHz DDR4 DRAM Desktop Gaming Memory Kit 32GB (16GBx2), GEH Aerocool Cylon RGB Front
PSU should be good enough.
But don't expect significantly more gaming performance with an RTX2060.
Thanks for the tip !
Yes of course the plan is to update the GPU later on, for now I am doing the CPU as I found it for a good price and work as an assistant editor so need that CPU power any way !
According to PCPartPicker -
AMD Ryzen 9 5900X 3.7 GHz 12-Core Processor 13W - 105W
MSI B450 TOMAHAWK MAX ATX AM4 Motherboard 17W - 70W
Crucial Ballistix 32 GB (2 x 16 GB) DDR4-3200 CL16 Memory 29W
Palit StormX GeForce RTX 2060 6 GB Video Card 40W - 160W
Total: 364W
You'll be fine and have a little headroom for a GPU upgrade.
As turb0j said - Don't expect a massive leap in gaming performance as the RTX 2060 is going to be the limiting factor.
Very helpful thanks! Yep GPU upgrade is for later ! Gotta let my wallet cool off before going back in.
