rode pod mic vs wireless pro

Those are very different equipment sets that will serve very different purposes. It really depends on what you need.

You'll get much better audio quality from 2 pod mics and a rodecaster pro. That's because the rode pod mics are actually really good and the rodecaster pro has EQs, compressors and other plugins that will help you enhance the audio.

The wireless pro is a lavalier mic... which in my experience can be a notorious pain to work with. If they work, they're great, but it there's too much eco in the room, or if it's too noisy, or if the sun isn't shining right and they decide to be annoying, you bet they will be. I like using lav mics in very specific, controlled environments when I know quality isn't a priority, because a proper microphone right in front of your mouth will always be better than something hanging from your T-Shirt.

If you don’t need the mobility get the Rodecaster. The audio interface is fantastic for improving the quality of your voice. It’s my favorite piece of recording kit and I use it daily.

Yes, the Røde Wireless receivers can plug directly into the computer via USB and don't need an interface.

The Wireless clip on or lav mics are VERY DIFFERENT from standard mics. There will be additional ambient sound and additional crosstalk from the other person. Make sure you understand what the Wireless Pro is for and how it will work for you, especially if you are in a less than well treated room.

I own a set of Røde Wireless Go II, before the Pro was released. Very happy with it for what it does. I rarely break them out.

DISCLAIMER: Yes, I am in fact an asshole.

Could you tell us a little bit about the podcast(s) you're intending to use these mics? I highly doubt the Wireless Pro is a good choice for 90% of the podcasts out there.

You could also consider getting a Zoom PodTrak as a recorder plus the Rode PodMics if you need a less expensive alternative to the Rodecaster.

I have all of the above and use them a lot. My recommendation, if you will record your podcast in your home or “studio” environment, Rodecaster Pro ll or Duo and pod mics for sure. I love the sound quality I get from mine. With the onboard sound processing capabilities, just fantastic sound quality and easy to use.

The Rode wireless pro is great for on the go and on location type recording. The lav mics of the Pro are phenomenal but they are omnidirectional and will pick up a lot of background noise. Likewise with the Wireless Pro, if you are in an inclosed room with someone else recording, you will get a lot of mic bleed and post/editing may not be enjoyable. Not to say that the Wirless Pros aren’t also a great piece of kit to have also or to add down the line. I record in bars and breweries sometimes and it’s nice ambiance and voices are always clear on the go. Love my Wireless Pros too.
