PodMic vs AT2040 for Couch Co-op

Question

Hi everyone,

I was looking into upgrading the audio equipment I use for recording two-person couch co-op let's plays. I currently use two USB cardioid condenser microphones, link here: USB Microphone Kit,UHURU USB Podcast Condenser Microphone Kit 192kHZ/24bit Plug & Play PC Microphone Cardioid Microphone for Recording Gaming Broadcasting YouTube-UM900 : Amazon.ca: Musical Instruments, Stage & Studio

An issue we have though is that there is a lot of bleed-through, and also the quality isn't as good as I'd like it to be. I've mostly solved bleed-through issues by adjusting gain and using a noise gate, but I'd still like better audio quality.

I was reading that for two-person recording in the same room, two dynamic microphones would best suit the situation. After looking through many different dynamic mic's available, I've narrowed it down to the Rode PodMic and the Audio-Technica AT2040. I've heard these are both good options, and for the price, it's pretty good. I would also have to of course get an audio interface, but I would probably just get the Focusrite.

So, would you recommend these mics for a couch co-op style let's play, and if so, which one would be better for us to use?

So honestly I have no experience with the at2040 other than an Alpha Gaming review I watched a few weeks ago, If I remember right he wasn't very impressed. It may suit your needs though.

I own a Rode Podmic though and use it to record all of my non vr videos and I'm extremely happy with the sound quality, I could see myself using that mic for years to come. Heavy Boi though so if you get it be sure to get a good boom arm or stand
