This place is dedicated to anything related to cannabis infused food and drinks also known as edibles. NO MINORS. DRUG SOURCING IS NOT PERMITTED HERE.
YOUR INFUSIONS SHOULD NOT BE DARK GREEN
One very common misconception is that infused oils should be green. They should not unless you like the earthy weedy off taste. The green color comes from plant impurities and with them comes the off taste. Try to stir as little as possible during infusion. As little as once every half hour or so and just enough to unsettle the plant material.
You can also try to roughly instead of finely grind the flower. That's less surface area exposed to the oil. Less surface area available to shake off plant particles and chemicals/compounds into the oil.
And to all our new members remember to start small when testing potency. This is also the place to ask the more odd and technical questions if you have any. I'll try my best to answer them all.
Edit: I might not answer some questions if other users do a good job of it.
I'll remove this notice in a little while.
Pretty much all of my friends are hell-bent on the “fact” that darker means stronger. I’ve tried to explain this to them a few times but they don’t want to hear it so I let them be. The darker the infusion, the more “weed” taste for sure. I’ve never noticed potency different between colors. Not for nothing, I think lime green canna butter looks amazing 😎
I know right. I'm also that wierd guy always going on about the color. One thing that adds to confusion is that some green batches are stronger because they are usually cooked a bit longer but after a certain point they are not any stronger. The green color just darkens with no increase in potency. I experimented with that for a while. Dark green batches just taste worse.
Yeah I extract my weed with BHO then I decarb the BHO and use it to make butter it tastes wayyyyyy better and it’s golden
Speaking from an ethanol extra point of view, I'll note that when doing a thorough wash of the decarbed flower, the resulting extract is a vibrant green and has almost ZERO weedy/earthy taste.
If I don't do that wash, the resulting extract is a mix of dark yellow, brown and green and reeks of weedy/earthy tastes.
So from the ethanol tincture standpoint, a vibrant green is a healthy indicator for me.
I’m getting ready to make my first tincture/FECO. Can you explain a wash for me?
Lol at chlorophyll being a “plant impurity”.
Lmao if only we could eradicate the damn chlorophyll!
People complaining about the “weed taste” in edibles always confuses me 😂. Like... That’s the best part.
Thank you for that information. I understood more surface (fine grind) allowed greater extraction. Based on your data, that is not the case and of greater importance, not necessary.
I've had friends try to "call me out" for lying about what and how much I put in my butter, when I make it clear to the people I plan on sharing them with: the recipe, the ingredients/additions/substitutions made (food allergies are scary yo) and what bud I'm using. I use a bunch of kief and mid grade bud and make about 3 cups of super potent butter for a batch of brownies. I still have no clue what I'm doing with ratio or THC content but I think I'm doing decently
