How much oil (in a gummy recipe) is too much?
Put another way, I'm wondering if there is a line of demarcation where if you have too much oil in your recipe, the gummies won't set, or the mixture won't emulsify, or any other negatives we don't want. I use flower-infused oil (due to location, availability), which is highly variable, and of course not as strong as concentrate-infused. But it's what I'm currently working with. As I test batches, I'm constantly tweaking the amount of oil to get more medicine in my gummies. But I'm just wondering, I guess, how much is too much? Are there any general guidelines or just anecdotal/YMMV type stuff? Thanks!

Unstrained paste works very well and doesn't exceed the carrying capacity.
5 grams of Hash fits in 1 tablespoon of Oil. Just....
I use MCT oil. I use 1/3 cup of water to 1/2 of oil in my gummies. I use powdered sunflower lecithin. Add rhe lecithin to the water and warm gently and wizz with an immersion blender until its frothy then add the oil a portion at a time and keep whizzing. I then add 3oz jello and and 1 oz of powdered gelatine
Awesome, thank you. Curious, does it matter whether it's sunflower or soy lecithin? My liquid lecithin is sunflower, but my powdered lecithin is soy.
You should minimize it as much as possible. Not fat or oil really is best. I use a bit of ethanol to dissolve my concentrates in so that I get better dispersion throughout.
If you're concerned about bioavailability without oil then just eat something with a bit of fat in it at the same time. I like to grab a couple pieces of pepperoni.
Any oil is a contaminate in your basic gummy recipe and yes it will fail and be an inedible slimy mess if you use to much. I've watched it happen way to often and always recommend a blank canvas with no cannabis first to see if your planned amount of Oil will still set.
Lecithin as an emulsifier will help mitigate the sweat and improve in general but not being much of a cook your on your own to explore that facet of it. I make a wicked Hash Capsule.
Any oil? I’ve made plenty with infused MCT oil…
ETA: and I use lecithin, for sure.
Can you create your own concentrates instead? Solvent extracts are simple if you liked hs science lab. I’ve never encountered a gummie recipe that was complete and accurate with the described results. Do what you can to maximize the potency of the oil you need to use. I’ve seen 10-20% lecithin listed to help with emulsification but didn’t delve enough to sort out what it was 10-20% of (the weight of oil? Volume? Water?).
I can make my own, and know the general process. It’s just difficult to find time for extra endeavors with an infant at home, ya know? I may be traveling to CO in a couple months and I always bring back concentrates for dabs. Maybe this time I’ll get some extra for edibles. Also, my local guy has concentrates, but I’m not super sold on them based on packaging, etc.
