Release Date: October 24th, 2014
Tapping into the Rift, Limbo demonstrates his art of dimensional travel that disrupts the space-time continuum, blurring the borders between realms and reality. Limbo arrived from the Rift Plane in Update 15.0 (2014-10-24).
Acquisition
Limbo's main blueprint can be purchased from the Market. Component blueprints are awarded from The Limbo Theorem quest, obtainable by completing the Europa Junction on Jupiter. Additional component blueprints can be bought from Cephalon Simaris for 25,000.
Alternatively, upon completion of The Duviri Paradox, Limbo's main and component blueprints can be earned from The Circuit. By selecting him on the rotating week he is available, players can earn his blueprints after reaching Tier 2 (Neuroptics), 5 (Chassis), 8 (Systems), and 10 (Main) rewards.

Lore
- Main article: The Limbo Theorem
Limbo's component blueprints were discovered by the player during the The Limbo Theorem quest, scattered across the Origin System as a result of the Warframe's miscalculations when crossing between the normal plane and the Void.
Tips
See Rift Plane for more detailed information on the following tips
- Limbo's abilities give him great survivability, making him a good solo frame. He can become invulnerable to weapon attacks of every enemy except the specific ones he might choose, and being in the Rift Plane grants a consistent source of energy. However, he is always vulnerable to Eximus abilities, and these units make it somewhat risky to stand still in a mission.
- This ability of Limbo to pick and choose enemies can be used to deal with dangerous targets with high priority. Since units with Overguard active are immune to
Stasis, isolating them to deal with them one by one is crucial. Make use of
Banish and
Rift Surge depending on the situation to isolate an Eximus unit.
- In the presence of nullifiers or in relatively mobile missions, it can be difficult or expensive to bring enemies into the rift for isolation. In such cases, make use of Rift Surge.
- In Defense, Mobile Defense and Excavation missions, Limbo can use Cataclysm to transport the defending Warframes and the mission object to the Rift Plane, making it and the Warframes invulnerable to all enemies outside of the Cataclysm. Upon contact with a Nullifier bubble, his Cataclysm collapses; so to avoid sudden incoming fire after the collapse, simply make sure to use Rift Surge regularly and keep Stasis active. This works especially well against strong ranged enemies.
- Modding for low Ability Range reduces the likelihood of a Nullifier popping the Catacylsm bubble.
- Limbo can use a single Banish to give a Warframe Energy Regeneration, Invulnerability and with
Rift Haven Health Regeneration for only 25 base Energy, making Limbo a useful support Warframe. If an ally player is accidentally placed in the rift, they can exit by rolling.
- In Spy, being in the Rift Plane will not trigger alarms when passing through Laser Barriers, making some Data Vaults extremely easy.
- Enemies, Cameras, Motion Detectors and Sensor Regulators can still detect see Limbo while in the Rift Plane.
- Using Banish on a Warframe with access to invisibility such as
Loki active can let them have free mobility through Data Vaults, as they will be undetectable by Cameras, Regulators, Enemies, and Laser Barriers.
- When raiding a Spy mission alone, using a
Huras Kubrow or
Shade to hide from enemies will make Limbo invisible and untouchable, thus he can simply ignore all barriers, enemies and other countermeasures in the vaults all by himself.
- In Rescue Missions, Limbo's abilities may prove useful:
- Once freed, Banishing the Rescue target keeps them perfectly safe for the duration.
- On the Infested Ship tileset, Limbo can walk through the detection lasers while in the Rift Plane without triggering an execution.
- Likewise, Banishing the Operative in Defense missions in Sorties and Arbitrations can provide them extra safety.
- While most enemy attacks cannot interact between planes, there are notable exceptions, such as the security eye of the Cunning Test or Eximus abilities. On the other hand, most Warframe abilities can cross planes with no issues. Learning which attacks and abilities can cross the Rift Plane may be worth memorizing.
- Cataclysm and Banish does not affect the Operator, which allows them to interact with items outside of the Rift Plane.
Trivia
- Limbo is the second Warframe who sells for
25,000, rather than the standard
10,000, the first being
Loki Prime.
- Limbo is the first Warframe who has a body part that can detach from its body while in a mission, in this case the upper portion of his base helmet (and by extension, his alternate helmets) that resembles and functions like a top hat. Other Warframes being,
Chroma's pelt,
Nezha's ring,
Titania's Razorwings,
Gara's glass shards,
Protea's turret, and
Xaku's armor.
- Limbo's physical appearance, emulating a top hat and coat, evokes the appearance of a stage magician.
- Alternatively, Limbo appears to have many similarities to Baron Samedi, a Loa of Haitian Vodou. Baron Samedi is depicted wearing a top hat and dinner jacket, and spends most of his time in another realm/plane. Specifically, he stands at the crossroads between the spiritual and physical world. He is tasked with deciding whether or not someone will die and be accepted into the realm of the dead, typically by digging the grave of someone destined to die.
- Limbo is currently the tallest Warframe in the game when including his top hat, even surpassing
Chroma in height.
- According to his associated questline, the Old War Era Limbo Warframe that the player obtains information about (and subsequent blueprints from the data) died while crossing into the rift plane, scattering his components across the Origin System. Ordis insists the player be more careful as to not repeat the same mistake.
- Limbo is the first Warframe to have unique rolling animations, propelling himself forward while slipping into and out of the Rift Plane.
- When performing a back-spring, Limbo will reach up and quickly remove the unique module of his currently equipped helmet, "tipping" his "hat" whilst sliding backward.
- Limbo is the second quest-driven Warframe that has a Prime variant, after
Mirage.
- Aside from his Prime form, Limbo is currently the fastest Warframe to build, each part requiring a minute to construct for a max total of 4 minutes to construct him.
Bugs
- Limbo's hat may be displaced on his head after casting abilities.
- The displaying of Banish's icon on allies does not occur when allies walk into Portals generated by Limbo's Passive. This can make it very confusing to tell which of your allies, if any, are currently in the rift. in case of doubt, enter the rift and cast banish on your allies, this will solve the issue.

Your teammates will hate you as you figure out you don't really need to use his abilities muc,h but once you realize his passive is the strongest in the game for utility/survivability you will understand how powerful he is. A meme? Maybe. But he has enough utility with his 4 and stasis for certain objectives, while you do some really goofy shit with subsumed abilities while enemies can't interact with you.
God he needs a tune up. It isn't even good for survivability anymore. Literally the only units you have to be weary of is eximus, and his kit doesn't even help with them. On top of making it harder to kill enemies, you too can just insta pop the moment a electric eximus even looks your way. Completely useless for anything high rank and low ranked, where you are instead actively buffing the enemy's survivability.
Oh but he breaks containers good so thats something.
His 4th auto marked the rare resources when destroyed.
All rare resources are automarked now, don't which update added it though
Oh!, thanks.
I see only one updates on Argon Crystal and not on others rare resources.
Anyone find it weird that his main blueprint and parts only take 1 minute to craft? Really confuses me still
I think they changed it to that recently, before it was normal crafting time (again i think, i'm not sure)
With the new cold status update that applies the deep freeze status. Seeing it applies to Atlas' Petrify. I was hoping Limbo's Stasis would gain this benefit as well. (Gaining the Crit damage bonus)
It's DE. Giving Limbo anything is already oto much to ask sadly :')
In jade shadows they nerfed limbo for synthesis targets, it used to be trivial - cast banish and stasis and be in the rift, now synthesis targets just free themselves from the stasis after 2 seconds and sometimes leave the rift, so you leave too to scan it, use sysnthesis trap and now they're in the rift somehow?? It's impossible to scan as limbo rn as targets arbitrarily move from plane to plane
Some targets now can enter the rift on their own now, its crazy
If they ever try to give limbo something new I hope they add a passive augment or something that displays the banished enemies on the minimap like saryn with revealing spores.
This dude's abilities just confuse me
Im so glad miter has an incarnon now so i can obliterate these nullifiers
Now all they have to do is add status immunity in rift T_T
I just wanted the fourth ability's augment to be changed. Allow the bubble to follow the limbus, with reduced size or duration...
Before i even consider trying to get this thing, while he is in the rift does he trip alarms for spy missions? If not that seems mildly convenient.
He doesnt trip alarms which come from lasers or door energy fields, but can be seen/detected by cameras, security drones, and any enemies in there. Basically think the opposite of Loki or Ivara, arguably the best frame for spy missions you dont want to rush through
Wukong is better. Cloud Walker makes him undetectable to everything.
Cloud Walker is easy to mess up the timer you don't have to worry about it with limbo. Not saying limbo is outright better but they both have their perks and I think limbo is more forgiving with a huras kubrow as your companion.
Question about its passive;
Are enemies supposed to be able to enter the rift through the hole you leave behind when you dodge? I've noticed enemies are able to follow me through it
I do believe so, yes.
Yes, enemies can follow Limbo into the Rift by passing through his tear. This can be problematic if not handled properly, or it could be used as a trap (ie, draw an enemy into the Rift with the Limbo's Passive, cast Rift Surge upon them, then hold-cast Banish to 'pull' nearby enemies into the Rift with you).
It's better to buy him than to farm him because he's vaulted (coming from a guy who spent a week trying and nothing, MR16)
You get him from completing a quest, you don’t farm for his parts
I think he meant the primed variant
So like...what does he do other than just annoy people in co-op? Is he meant to be crowd control? Any time a limbo shows up in a mission they just feel like an inconvenience to me, I don't really notice any support they offer with their abilities.
I am late, protection + energy regen for casters, single target sniping (Not literal sniping)
Usually you use: Cataclysm, stasis, rift surge, close cataclysm, rift surge again (for rift torrent), and eliminate almost everyone.
Rift Surge is what ends up causing problems for other players in the squad. If you want to avoid issues, best to just replace Rift Surge with a Helminth power, and only use Cataclysm for rifting enemies. That keeps it straightforward for everyone.
It can defend something in a defense mission by casting catalyst then statis, it can revive you in the middle of a battlefield by passing to the other plane, it can pass to the other plane to not trigger laser alarms, it can... uh... I think thats all.
I do not understand how this warframe work.
Since you have no tankyness at all, you need to stay permanently in the rift to stay alive. But while you're in the rift, you can't kill the enemies since they're in the material plane which means you need a way to bring them in the rift. You can't do that with his 1 since you're still in the rift, so you can only use his 4 for that.
Problem, his 4 is really bad at that because:
-Even if they can't shoot you, enemies won't try to enter your 4 radius to kill you.
-Even when those enemies try to enter the cataclysm, they get stuck on the edge because of stasis (which is required if you don't want to die).
-Those who get stuck on the edge tend to get freed immediatly since your 4 radius continuously shrink.
The best way i found to use limbo is to max out his ability range and duration, increase his ability efficiency and cast speed then jump from group of enemies to group of enemies while spamming his 4 and making sure stasis don't run off, ever.
It's working but my teammates hate me and it's boring af. I can't believe anyone can have fun this way which is why i'm sure i forgeting something.
Someone can tell me what i obviously missed?
You have to use Limbo's 3 in conjunction with his 2 and 1 in order to get enemies into The Rift. Your 4 shouldn't be your primary method to force enemies into the rift plane. Here's my Limbo rotation:
Cast Stasis*ahead of time*
Cast Banish. Your enemies should be frozen in time due to casting stasis first.
Enter Rift.
Cast Rift Surge, the frozen enemies should all have the rift surge effect.
Cast Banish again but hold the button down - this will release the enemies from the Rift.
Since you cast Banish on the enemies affected by Rift Surge, a Radial Banish is performed. This causes all enemies nearby Rift Surge targets into the void. With proper duration, you should have loads of suckers inside tThe Rift now.
Kill them all/kill all but one.
Rinse and Repeat. Make sure to recast Stasis as necessary to keep its uptime.
Limbo's augment Rift Torrent will allow for ridiculous damage the more foes afflicted by Rift Surge. This way, your constantly in the Rift and pulling enemies to you instead of going to them. If you need to switch dimensions, get Rolling Guard for the invincibility on dodge. It'll help keep you alive.
Thanks for your answer.
I mean, the tanking *is* from getting to stay in the Rift all the time if you want. The "teammates hate you" bit is, I suspect, because it's not visually obvious that enemies are in the Rift unless they're Stasis'ed, and even then, what it means ("don't bother shooting them, they can't hurt you anyway") isn't obvious either in a hectic fight where the random players are used to just gunning everything down.
Setup I like is to swap Rift Surge for Nyx's Mind Control. There are probably better choices out there, but eh; you can usefully cast it without leaving the Rift, it gives you a meatshield for when you actually do want to leave, and it benefits from longer duration like the rest of his kit. It also may be worth some damage if you pick the right target (Arson Eximus come to mind, though you do have to drop their overshields first).
Its funny how people still say he's bad
He isn't bad but he does struggle against Nullifiers and Eximus more than other frames. I'm just upset they patched the life steal and stasis trick.
I hv gone to level cap with limbo without helminth. And never died because of any eximus or nullifiers. If u subsume silence then its even more easier. At some point warframe players just need to accept they just suck at playing game. Skill issue through and through. Anytime devs ask u to use one brain cell while playing game, Its bad. Fucking clown on internet.
People say he's bad? The only time he's ever bad is if he gets caught out by an eximus or a nullifier. One of which literally has to disable his abilities outright.
People don't like Limbo in group content, he's not ever been dead. And anyone who says that x frame is bad in high level content either can't mod or doesn't understand the kit and synergies.
Should be added into tips:
with the use of "untraceable" mod equipped to the parazon after hacking limbo becomes invisible for 15s, in combination with limbo dash passive, this can avoid any sensors, cameras and security, making spy missions and rescues a breeze.
A absolute chad gave me this for a melee stance im in great debt to that amazing man.
Why did they have to completely destroy Limbo with the Eximus rework? I'm still bitter to this day.
It's still hilarious how large swaths of the player base are babies in not just in temperment but in intellegence as well. To say that a frame is ruined cause one specific enemy type is cc immune when 95% of the enemies on your screen are frozen "destroyed" the viability of a frame. And throwing it out there, no one gives a shit about lvl 9999 survival enemies. Only an extremely small, and autistic part of the players actually go through the slog to run into that. Not to mention that the game isn't remotely balanced/designed around that, people use cheese and exploits that DE allows you to do
After the limbo update:
"Ayo. YO. YO WTF. Okay, new strategy."
<bad players> "I will not change, this frame is now as useless as I am."
*eximus update
Only thing that can kill him are eximus auras and eximus butchers/melee enemies. Bullets are stopped completely. If you use silence then there's only eximus melee enemies and nullified bubbles left.
"Additionally, enemy weapon hit-scan gunfire, projectiles, and beams in flight within the Rift cease to move for the duration. While active, the Rift is able to contain 300 enemy weapon fire objects before it becomes unstable; exceeding this limit will end the ability prematurely to resume all Rift-bound enemy activity."
Edit this too, it doesnt feerze bullets anymore. Ally fire your fire enemy fire, any projectile just goes through without making damage.
What do you mean it goes through? Normal bullets, projectiles, beams could never go through the Rift. In the scenario, where a you cast Cataclysm on a Bombard (making it go into the Rift) and also cast Stasis the moment a Bombard's rocket is shot (enemy projectile is still in the Rift), does Stasis not stop that projectile any more?
Stasis can still freeze enemy weapon fire objects, as Eximus units can shoot their gun in the Rift. What the first commenter might be talking about is that objects within Cataclysm are not damaged from enemies shooting out, and the bullets do not freeze on contact with the bubble.
"Limbo can still damage enemies across planes, so long as they are ragdolled." Well that's bullshit I'm testing it right now with larva and it doesn't work. Somebody edit this.
Ditto, tested with mag pull.
