How do I install an Nvidia GTX 660 graphics card onto Ubuntu 16.04?
First I plugged it in and my PC wouldnt boot, so maybe I dont have enough power? I know the card works.
Secondly, when looking for guides on the internet, I was often instructed to install drivers from the 'additional Drivers' tab in the Software and Updates, but there aren't any additional drivers presenting themselves to be downloaded. Maybe this is because I cant get the PC to boot with my graphics card in?
If the OS recognizes an NV or AMD card on the system, driver options will become available in the driver manager.
Are you absolutely certain the card is fine? This has all the hallmarks of a hardware issue.
First, try it in another computer. If it works, try it in another slot on the problem device. Then make sure it's properly seated. Clean the contacts. Make sure all cables are properly fastened and that your power supply is up to snuff. Rule out everything you possibly can.
Doesn't that card have a 6-pin plug on the top you're supposed to connect directly to your power supply?
Additional drivers shows up when you have a new device active. Since you haven't booted up, it won't show you drivers. It's possible to force a download of the current drivers, but I wouldn't bother.
