Butane for an Iwatani Torch
I received an Iwatani torch for Christmas. Pretty great. The directions say to only use Iwatani branded butane canisters but looking around the internet I see people saying they use butane canisters from Chinese grocery stores and such. I’m assuming Iwatani are just covering their asses and pretty much any butane would work but since this involves a flammable explosive substance I figured I’d double check.
Would this work?
Thanks!
You can use any one of the asian butane cylinders, they are 8 oz and not proprietary to Iwatani.
Few pics of what the connector looks like and specs from the can.
That container looks like it's for refilling cigarette lighters which have different valve tips than the one for your Iwatani torch. Under that cap is a skinny plastic tip that plugs into a small valve. It has no locking lugs for your torch to attach to.
Look for canisters for portable hop pot stove. They've got a sheet metal dingus to couple to the locking lugs in your torch.
I don't know exactly what type your torch is, but there are 3 types of torches to my knowledge.
The ones with internal gas chamber, which is refilled with the same type of bottle as a cigarette lighter.
The one you likely have with international standard vent for single use bottles see bottle vent.
There's also the American standard 1 inch vent, which I doubt you have.
Just get any generic bottle with the correct style of vent.
