The Quills are a mysterious monastic order that serve the equally enigmatic Unum, a being who resides within the Orokin Tower at Cetus in the Plains of Eidolon. They have very close ties to the Ostron people who also praise the Unum, and are seemingly knowledgeable about the secrets of the Tenno. They are said to be able to divine the future, which combined with their information gathering prowess allows them to preemptively end threats to Cetus through their operatives.
The player will be able to ally with the Quills after completing both Saya's Vigil and The War Within quests. Their hideout resides in a cave in the northeast part of Cetus, behind Konzu's notice board, whose doors will only open for the Operator.
Standing Gain[]
To earn standing for the Quills, players must find and collect Sentient Cores dropped by Sentient enemies. These include Eidolons (Eidolon Vomvalysts, Eidolon Teralysts, Eidolon Gantulysts, and Eidolon Hydrolysts), Lua's Battalysts and Conculysts, and Veil Proxima's Murex Sentients (Brachiolysts, Symbilysts, Aerolysts, Conculysts, and Battalysts). Cores are traded to Onkko for standing.
Fully-constructed and max ranked Amps can also be traded into the Quills for standing, whether or not they have been gilded.

Receiving your first Amp from Onkko becomes vital soon after The War Within. Right now, an inbox message from a mysterious figure who tells of a secret door in Cetus is all that directs new players to the Quills. New players are never forced to find the door and receive their Amp to progress, which can cause problems by the time they play The Sacrifice.
To address this, we are now making Mote Amp acquisition an explicit requirement to progress in the main questline:
- Added a new inbox after completing The War Within directing players to visit Onkko in Cetus.

In addition to the already noted changes to Amps and Ore/Gems, we’ve included an increase to Sentient Core Standing return and also modified the Exceptional Sentient Core Conversion Blueprint. Those starting out on their Quills journey should find this allows them to progress through the Syndicate faster to reach the higher tier Offerings.
- Increased Standing return from Sentient Cores:
- Intact Sentient Core Standing return from 100 to 250
- Exceptional Sentient Core Standing return from 500 to 750
- Flawless Sentient Core Standing return from 1200 to 1500
- Exceptional Sentient Core Conversion Blueprint Changes:
- Exceptional Sentient Core Conversion Blueprint now transforms 10 Intact Cores into 10 Exceptional Cores, as opposed to 2:2.
- Duration to Craft and cost to Rush have been halved: down to 5 mins and 5 Platinum respectively.
- The Radian Sentirum and Heart Nyth values remain as 1 each!
Players who had an Exceptional Sentient Core Conversion Blueprint crafting will get a one-time gift of 10 Exceptional Cores in exchange for only spending 2 Intact Cores. Bank error in your favor!

- Replaced Arcane Blueprints with Arcanes in Quills Offerings meaning that Arcanes no longer need to be built.
- Owned Magus and Virtuos Arcane Blueprints have been converted to full-crafted Arcanes.

Do I really need a good amp to kill eidolons, and to kill eidolons to get a good amp?
Sort of. Having a great amp allows you to min-max (especially with Madurai focus), but the basic amps you can get without eidolon shards are sufficient to kill the first Eidolon. Having a decent ranged weapon to deal sufficient radiation damage to the eidolon once it's shield is broken is the bigger barrier to a newbie, IMO. Alternatively, I'm sure there are players who are more than willing to help you farm all 3 Eidolons to help rank Quills more quickly :)

Can't really Eidolon hunt so now what way can I farm their standing so I can get a decent amp to then farm Eidolons?
1) Kills the vomvalysts roaming the Eidolon plains at night to get the intact cores, then use the cores for standing gain and level up and buy amps.
2) Sentients on Lua also drop intact cores
Quick tips for new players wanting to level up Quills:
- Don't farm Eidolons for standing in the Quills (Unless you are going with a clan, or can solo Tridolon)
Instead, buy the 2x Exceptional Sentient Core Conversion Blueprint for 500 standing. This is reusable, and it will convert 200 standing into 1000 standing using intact sentient cores.
You then get yourself a 2x resource booster (even a 3day one is fine) and go to Plains of Eidolon at night, fly around and farm the sentients for Intact Cores and you should be able to get 100+ in one night. Then take some time to go mining to collect Nyth and Sentrium (you will need the blueprints to cut these gems into useable gems from Old Man Suumbaat)
You can then convert 2 intact cores (worth 200 standing) into 2 exceptional cores (500 standing each) for a total of 1000 standing.
By flying around plains of eidolon just a few times, you should be able to collect enough cores to max out the quills using this. You will only need to hunt eidolons for the standing levelup material requirement.
Oh. This makes alot more sense then me piggybacking off other players as they kill the Eidelons XD
Especially since they just improved the recipe and the standing you get from cores
Before you mine the gems, go to Fortuna and get the Sunpoint Plasma Drill. It's base form is better than all of the mining tools you can get in Cetus from Old Man Suumbaat. The biggest thing is it marks deposits on your map when you have it out. Makes finding gems 10x quicker.

Not hitching a Pub Ride with people fully geared in 1/1/1 or 2/1/1 Amps + Necramechs, hmm no, very very unwise.
Suggestion, go pub MM and get carried.

Mine gems during day
Kill vombalysts during night with mote amp and get intact cores
Craft intact cores into exceptional core from the recipe you get from quills.
Turn in exceptional cores
Yeah I just wanted to reach observer rank so that I can do the revenant story quest. I guess this method is viable for first two ranks XD

Take Ivara, go invisible and steal cores from vombalysts. then kill vombalysts and get another core. You can lvl to observer relatively easy like this

I like how we need to do stuff to gain standing that no other Quills member, not even Onnko can do. Would be easier to just join the Quills instead of just doing chores for them.
Considering how Onkko talks and acts and what it's implied he had to go through to join he probably needs more agents acting in linear time like us to play along with the Unum's xanatos gambits than he needs more non-linear Quills like himself.

Are there any other conditions to open the quills? Because I've finished Gara's quest (though I don't own Gara herself) and the War Within, but the door still doesn't open for me (yeah I'm in operator mode). Please help.

How much is a level 30 un-gilded (can you even gild the things?) mote amp worth? Is it potentially worth it to buy up some extras at 500 apiece, level them then give'em back for profits?
I know I'm a bit late, but you cannot give Mote Amps to the Quills or Vox Solaris for standing. Also, Mote Amps CAN be gilded, and will give Mastery Rank XP after being gilded and re-ranked.
Wtf quills can go to hell making me kill these little Cinnamon Toast Crunch ghosts for a month straight because everyone in this game is an asshole and will host migrate when they see a mote amp
Just craft a decent charge amp using the tier 1 amps unlocked at the mote rank there's a reason why people leave when they see a mote amp.

-Raplak Prism

Or just role with a sniper modded for radiation, one shot the vomvalysts, then drop them with the mote amp in just a few seconds.
Ummm… It has listed on this page that cetus wisps are 5,000 standing when in actuality they are only 2,000 standing, as listed in the specific page on cetus wisps. This has caused me to lose a dispute between a friend and I, please fix this problem as soon as possible so no others may suffer.
They previously did cost 5,000 - They subsequently got changed to 2,000
Kind of dumb that you have to reach rank 3 in order to have an amp gilded. Fight itself is easy, so having to tickle this mentally handicapped Ent for 10 minutes straight is not something I appreciate. Especially because of how easy it is to destroy it's limbs once the shield is down. What a fucking chore.

i got a story that happened to me.when i hunt an eidolon,remember i haven't even finished the new strange,apparently have a team who got to the quills,got rewards,even when all i did was shoot teralyst a few times which did absolutely nothing.

Discovering the Quills really should be a requirement to unlock the Chains of Harrow quest. I hate the operator and leveling focus is a chore, so the REQUIRED operator quest segments are beastly. The mote amp probably would have helped them to suck less.
Am I the only person who cares about my Operator?
Keep in mind that the point of unlocking the mote amp is it allows your energy to be seperated, so your powers and weapon don't use the same energy pool. With the mote amp unlocked you can go invisible during the fight, but use that time to recharge your amp. Without this, they use the same pool so going invisible means your using energy that you could use for the beam.
Did Chains of Harrow without an Amp and 0 focus upgrades just basic operator, got to Umbra Excalibur before even trying to figure out what I was doing wrong.
Same. I even beat the first shielded incarnation of Umbra Excal, despite a couple deaths. It wasn't until the second round when he doesn't have any mobs to distract him that I realized I'm probably missing something. Apparently that something is a whole new grind tree called Amps.
I stopped playing at MR15 shortly after Archwing was introduced, and until I hit the Umbra wall casually catching up on quests, I'm pretty sure I had never heard of Amps, The Quills, or any of this stuff. The Limbo Theorem lets you know ahead of time that an Archwing is required to complete the quest. It would be nice if The Sacrifice gave a similar suggestion regarding an Operator Amp.
